The Dig

The Dig

Can you Dead End this game?
I love old adventure games, but can never tell whether or not you'll dead end. Therefore I usually make several save games and almost never overwright a previous game for fear of dead ending and having to start from the beginning. Does anyone know if this game does that? Or can I just use one save game?

Another apparent dead end for The Dig™ : find out where the "device" points before entering the orange spire. I am currently stuck because I didn't. Now I have to go back to a savegame from 2 hours ago.

Actually it seems you can get a dead end in this, I've just gone and done it!
Basically i've gotten to the spire with the second light bridge (you have to jump a ravine to get to it) but i don't have the bracelet and i didn't start the first light bridge. So what has happened is, I can't complete the rat puzzle without the bracelet, and i can't get back to get the bracelet because A: you can't go across the ravine the other way and B: The first light bridge isn't up, so i've only got the second light bridge that goes to the transparent crystal.
In other words no way to get back, no way to finish puzzle to progress.
Unless i'm missing something obvious.

There's a boulder on the other side of that ravine. Use the shovel on it to create a bridge back.

I think I just reached a dead end! I picked up the rod meant for the critter trap I think, but I didn't know that, so I went back and placed it in the command room to light up the crystals...I cant pick it up 0_0 oh no

That's not the same rod. The blue rod is only used to reactivate the tram. The red rod for the critter trap is in the same room as the trap itself

Nope, there is NO WAY AT ALL to "dead-end" this game. No matter what you do, you'll still be able to finish "The Dig". You see, this is a LucasArts game, not a Sierra or Infocom game.

You can dead end a couple of Lucasarts games, Zak if you lauch the bus into space or take off a helmet then evacuate the atmosphere... post Zak though I think the only real softlocks I can think of is Loom if you miss one of the weaves... and the MI's if you spend all your money somehow. There are however a couple of "bad" endings in their games. The dig has... 2 I think, the indy games have so so many bad endings. And so on.

I dont know if anyone has experienced this in the Dig, but there seems to be a way to Dead end it, on my first playthrough I think I had gotten into the room with the life crystals too early and the bomb did not appear in that room, I think it was because I had not seen the cutscene with the giant tentacle and the bomb is supposed to appear after that, because your not meant to get into that room before the cutscene, after hours and hours of pixel hunting I consulted a walkthrough and read about the bomb, couldn't find it anywhere, but I did find it after starting completely over from the begining of the game. Ouch...

I've dead ended this game, I never activated a light bridge at the correct point in the game, now, when I enter the crevice on the planetarium spire, brink isnt there, even after being scared off by the bat creatures!!!
