Help I'm stuck!

This is my first playthrough of the game and I am currently trying to build the trap. I checked a walkthrough because I was having some trouble, and I saw that you use a blue rod to prop up the ribcage. Well, I already put the blue rod back in it's place and got all the crystals working again. Now I can't seem to pick it back up. Is there a solution?

You use the red rod that's lying on the ground near the wheel. Sorry for the confusion. I used the names of items as they appear in-game (where the red rod is just called 'rod'), not realizing people might mix it up with the blue rod also found in the planetarium spire.
