Excavation Bomb + Boss Room

If you have an excavation bomb equipped and go to a boss room before beating the boss, you may see the flashing icons indicating certain walls able to be destroyed by using the bomb. However, if you use the bomb, the walls will not be destroyed.

My theory is that the game treats the unbeaten boss as a standard enemy, preventing the effects of the excavation bomb. After 200 hours of playing, I also encountered something else.

During a fight with the Overlord (possibly the boss in the level right after... can't remember), I used a bomb and the sound that I discovered a secret room played. Normally, you can't access the surrounding rooms after this boss fight. However, the room I uncovered was the Green Treasure room requiring a relic to open up "Forgotten Places." I was curious and wanted supplies, so went into the treasure room, only to have the game end.
