What works for me is inching just a couple tiles at a time; his sword targets where you are when he starts moving, so don't rush to create distance or you'll corner yourself sooner. You do need to side switch once you're pushed to the wall, and that's a matter of dashing through the residual bullets while he's raising his sword for the next swing.
No more trials for this old man, though.
It took 8 hours for my first base game clear, and that was great! All the unlocks, secrets, and surprises along the way kept things interesting and exciting. But then I endured another 8-10 hours for the first trial with more than half of that time spent overcoming the final phase. It was a brutal grind. It was rewarding to complete, but the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze (for me).
Wild, VERY good game with a buttery smooth learning curve. The trials are definitely a skill jump.... I imagine this is the noob trial, too... lol. Naw, I'm good. :) I'll stick to the base game.
yeah they start tough and get WAY harder as you go; nothing wrong with calling it here
