So I beat SoP a few weeks ago; i've been missing my shmup fix. Is there any other games that have this kind of gameplay with a decent game length? I've played minishoot adventures; that was pretty close. I've seen games like ZeroRanger but it is only like 2 hours long.

It seems there's a large content gap for shmups that have replayability and content like Star of Providence :(

Other than that, the most i can give is reccomendation to either good roguelikes or good shmups

Best one is Enter the Gungeon, or Ikaruga. It depends if you're more addicted to the roguelike or the bullet hell aspect

Yeah I figured Gungeon would be the recommendation. There's really nothing like SoP out there, it's rough.

I will second Enter the Gungeon.

Star of Providence is the latest indie I have been playing, and you are right, there is nothing quite like it that I have seen, both in genre and game design.

However, if you want a classic PC game recommendation, you can try Tyrian 2000. It is free over on GOG. Not long like you requested, 8-10 hours, but I think it is worth a shot!

(Thanks for mentioning ZeroRanger, that looks awesome! I will have to check it out.)

If you liked zeroranger I would recommend Hellsinker. It's not really as relpayable as SoP and way more of a traditional shmup in terms of difficulty/gameplay loop. BUT it is an insanely engaging shmup that i can't recommend enough to people.

What in the world! This literally just looks like more SoP! Thats insane. Youre the winner of this thread.
The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is a roguelike shmup (not twinstick like SoP). It's a boss rush with crazy replayability, with more than 50 bosses if it's not a hundred now. The dev is crazy (the good kind) and passionate, it's an EA but there is so much to do already, it would last you months.

Ive got a ton of hours in Void Rains. Good suggestion! Seems like ive played almost every game similar to SoP sadly.

shmups have tons of replayability if you aim for 1cc, nmnb, or just scoring in general. Blue Revolver, Gunvein, Mushihimesama, there are tons of great shmups on Steam, and even more if you get MAME or fbneo.

Scourgebringer is really good! Sadly though I thought it was way too easy; I only have 6 hours in it, and I beat it completely years ago! Def a good recommendation though.
Not a roguelike, but Eigengrau is a great Shmup with creative ideas that is not very well known. It has 4 directional aiming though which places it a little closer to Star of Providence's gameplay than other Shmups I know of. Content wise it has 40 stages (each with a different mechanic) and 10 bosses, with easy and hard mode variations, so it it is not the longest to beat, but it should be a difficult journey to a hard mode 1CC.
