Exact same reaction for me; I took my hands off to watch overlord die, thinking "wow, trial one was so easy!"

Then it took me probably 8 or 9 tries to actually beat it, because every single time I died to when he starts slamming his sword down super fast at the end of the fight.
For anyone else suffering, try and slow down and not dash around super fast. My issue was I would use my dash and he'd attack me right as I stopped. If you watch and move slower normally he'll attack ahead of you.

I tried this twice so far and I see what you're saying, but the piece of ♥♥♥♥ hits me every time he uses that move lmao

So I get to see it ten times, then I die and it's back to the tedious six opening bosses again

Edit: okay dashing in the opposite direction from him worked for me - like while he's moving. if you fall off the rhythm then he just hits you every time.
