Gauntlet Caretaker

This guy will just. not. show. up. What are the conditions exactly, am I missing something? I've heard he only shows up floors 4/5, but since hearing that I've gotten to the boss fight perfectly at least 10 times on these floors, and he still doesn't want to show up...

He does always appear on the Floor 4-5 with an entrance to the Gauntlet, but if you're expecting to encounter him as a boss it is just random.
I can't tell whether he will be the boss if you take damage or not, but i do recommend trying to No Hit the Gauntlet fully, maybe it'll be more likely for him to appear.

As far as I could tell from my playtime you could get a truncated version of the fight occasionally with a flawed clear but for the full multi-phase version of the fight (the one needed for the achievement) you have to perfect clear the whole gauntlet.

The Gauntlet Caretaker shows up as a boss when you've perfectly cleared every other trial.

For me, he didn't show up at all until I had completed the gauntlet about 20 times.

I suspect it had something to do with his dialogue; after talking to him often and exhausting all his dialogue (must choose same option multiple times to exhaust), the Caretaker asked me a question. After answering the question, he suddenly started showing up for me.

Hopefully this works for you too.

I think this was it, after exhausting some dialogue I got the question, and I imagine that's when he was added to the pool, I got him I think the third gauntlet after that.

I got to this and beat him, and it wouldn’t let me leave the final room? When I hit “exit” on the star he left behind it just chirped and nothing happened. Is this a bug?
