Would love some tips, I'm bad
I've beaten the Overlord a few times, but it seems to be more through luck than anything else. I get hit a lot and the lack of a Focus button or a Dodge Roll with I-Frames makes everything exponentially harder. Any tips for a newcomer?

Switch weapons constantly and prioritize damage over health. Even if that sounds wrong, do it anyway. Other than that, just be where bullets aren't.

Lol I like that last sentence, gave me a good laugh.
Cheers!

This game really does feel a bit more skill based then RNG/what weapons and items you find! However, getting stronger gives you a significant edge, so I recommend clearing as many rooms as you can until the last floor, and always check for secret rooms. Secret rooms spawn once per floor and can be found by using a bomb and revealing an entrance to it. If you look on the map, usually they are hidden where many connecting rooms could be around it, so practice this to get a feel for it. If you are playing with the dlc (which I HIGHLY recommend), you will find cracks in the walls that lead to shortcut areas and these are usually good to bomb away since you can find nice items sometimes. Its helpful if you can use a bomb while fighting enemies and open up a wall. Also remember that your two "max bombs" recharge every three rooms

In addition to that, killing enemies without getting hit raises your multiplier. Use bombs to avoid getting hit (especially since they recharge every three rooms) and keep up the score multiplier because that means you will have more debris to buy stuff in the shops. Also clearing rooms gives you a chance to find new items as well. I'd say good upgrades to get in the terminal are: increased item drops, 1/3 health increase (on later floors is even better), the revive (if you have the dlc), blink/I-frame dash, 33% shop discount, and 10% weapon increase. There are other good choices but these seem to work for me, if you prefer other upgrades you can ignore these :) Also if you unlocked the Last-Wish (ability that fully heals you), you should skip the terminal on the last floor until right before the boss if you haven't picked it up in that run, since you will have a chance at a full heal. Also it's a nice idea to save the one that gives you a choice of four really good weapons until the end

I'd also recommend not getting too attached to weapons, since you will need to swap them eventually and ammo is not always guarnteed. If you get a good gun, you can try to save it and clear rooms/buy ammo at the right times, but just be careful or you may end up having to deal with using your default gun

When it comes to getting hit a lot, I'd say its practice. If you have the dlc, there is a mirror item you can unlock which helps you practice the bosses which can be helpful. When it comes to focusing on these types of games, I'd say focus on dodging more then what you are aiming at, and the faster the bullets, the earlier you have to react to them. If a bullet is on the opposite side of the screen and not coming towards you, it doesn't matter so focus on the ones about to hit you! I know this may be a bit obvious, but I personally think these are the best practices. Also I'd say try to stay calm in these moments, if you get hit brush it off and dodge what you can. For me at least, I find it pretty easy to get overwhelmed if you don't haha!

Good luck on your future runs! :)

Take the damage upgrades from the bosses every time. Enemies can't hurt you if they're dead before they get the chance.

I feel flattered, that you took the time to answer, I already know all these things from playing this game a bit and having played countless hours of other roguelites.
You didn't really tell me anything new, but your will to help made me shed a few joyful tears.
Thank you, stay awesome.

Great tip, I've been using it ever since the first tip came in and it works wonders!

Best tips ever. I managed to beat the boss, get all the seals and finish the game after only a few runs after I started switching weapons constantly and choosing damage over health. Thanks a lot! Time for hard mode, I guess.
