Yep, it totally has local co-op where player 2 plays as an orb bot that can fly and shoot things. But he uses the same life pool as Fight does so if one of you dies, its over for both of ya! :) Excellent co-op potential to be had here!

I already bought it I was really hoping for two full metroid style robots. That has always been my dream game. If anyone knows of a metroidvania with more than one fully supported character please let me know. This game seems cool but it's so disappointing that's not the case.

You want the "backtrack" part of metroidvania, or the platformer action?
If you're considering the "open world backtracking, I can suggest Guacamelee.
If you're considering the "platformer" part, I suggest 20XX.

No I would really like this game but for the second player to be a fully supported character not a helper bot. I have beat Guacamelee twice. Loved it but I was just hoping this was more like that but metroid.

Im pretty sure the closest thing to a symmetrical 2 player metroidvania is Contra on NES, or Battletoads. I've never heard of anyone attempting multiplayer on a metroid or castlevania type.

However, lets actually considering that for a minute. What comes to mind is either split screen, or forcing both players into the same room, which both sound like a drag. Usually the objective is to explore further without dying, so what if just one player dies? Are you both forced to return to a checkpoint? Can you just revive them, defeating the challenge? What about boss fights?

It's hard to imagine a coop mode for a single player metroidvania that doesn't destroy the flow of the game. It would almost have to be coop only or specific modes that are completely seperate from the single player experience.

I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. It would be risky like publishing an FPS that doesn't have multiplayer in 2017.

Online would be cool too. But the fact that this is such a hard concept to accept and cannot be figured out is maddening. As a previous post said Guacamelee did almost exactly that, and it was awesome. I just want it metroid style. Not trying to be rude but I feel like that way of thinking is ridiculous and unimaginative. Plus coming out with a 8 bit/ 16 bit sidescroller in 2017 isnt the most profit oriented decision but thats why indie games exist.

That's a little dissapointing. I too was expecting 2 robot-like characters and explore the world that way

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is a pretty fantastic example of a multiplayer Metroidvania game done right. Up to four simultaneous players each with their own screen to explore the world at their leisure with. It's a little different since Kirby's copy ability makes his powers and attributes much more inconsistent, you could go essentially anywhere in the world from the very start because of that, but honestly that's a plus when playing with multiple people.

Good luck getting to play it multiplayer though, the virtual console version for Wii U and the rare ambassador program 3DS version both lack the multiplayer feature, meaning you'll either need multiple GBAs, cartidges, and a link cable, or be able to emulate the game effectively.
