Wierd launch freeze
Hey, whenever I launch JA, it works, but doesn't show the start up video (plays audio normally) and then the screen goes black, yet when I move the mouse I can hear the options being moved over. I tried bringing it to front, but it just freezes the screen while still letting me mouse over things but showing it as frozen. Sorry if this isn't brilliantly written it's a wierd problem.

Is it the resolution and if so how can I fix it?

Ok I don't think it's the resolution but it's like my windows just doesn't like having the game open on the desk top :/ Any help?

Sounds like a crappy problem man, I dont really have a clue.

I would sugguest running it in windowd mode, but I guess you wouldnt be change it to windowed mode

I made it work by spamming alt and the windows button, which kinda' bypassed the freezing of it. Only problem is it takes ages to do and is really annoying :L

I hate how most Steam games do this, they should hire people as 'testers' to try out all their games on various platforms :/ I'll try the windowed mode sometime tonight.

its not steam its your computer. steam games work fine because they are the real game, steam just puts its program to talk and web into it. but this sounds like a weird problem. most likely a compatability problem it is an older game. maby your computer is to good for it xD
I think i found my long lost twin...

I had pretty much the same problem. If you have a newer card, especially an ATI card (like me), it has to do with OpenGL support. Here's what worked for me.

Follow the instructions posted here:
http://lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=206018

""
1. Go to the GLDirect page on SourceForge http://sourceforge.net/projects/gldirect/
Download gldirect5_opensource.zip.

2. Extract the contents. Go to the gldirect5\bin\release folder.

3. Copy opengl32.dll to your GameData folder.

4. Play the game!!
""
(The GameData folder is located at: *your steam folder's location*\steamapps\common\jedi academy\GameData )

If that doesn't solve the problem out-right, try also editing the "jaconfig.cfg" and "jampconfig.cfg" located in the "GameData\base" folder with notepad or another text editor, and change the following values:

"
seta r_mode "-1" (set this to "-1". This tells it to use the custom width and height.)
seta r_fullscreen "x" (set this to "1" for full screen, "0" for windowed.)
seta r_customwidth "xxxx" (Set to desired width, if full screen use your desktop resolution.)
seta r_customheight "xxx" (Set to desired height, if full screen, use your desktop resolution.)
"

Aaaand, there ya go. :) I went ahead and used both solutions at once, but the first fix should be just enough to get you in-game to edit the settings from there. Enjoy, hope this works for you!

(Here's where I found the advice about editing the config file: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1044180&p=27247379&viewfull=1#post27247379 .
You can also his "autoexec.cfg" trick, posted there, if you prefer, but make sure to fix the height and width values!)

Thanks for the reply but I just went ahead with the crashes and went through the game best I could XD quite a few annoying crashes that put me back, especially on videos, like the one where you fight the HK bots outside the snow base, but I made it through them by saving everytime something important happened and got to my evil ending :P

Also, I'm not on a newer video card, I'm running it on a laptop that was undercut on gfx card but has decent processor etc, the gfx card is something like a Intel Family Express Chipset, so yeah :( Just ordered a new comp off Amazon though, I72600k processor, GTX560ti gfx card, 1TB of hdd, and 8 gb of ram. Even a nice case too, which I don't consider important.

Again, thanks for the replies, especially you Kotuseru, that was a LOT of help XD

You are very welcome! ;) I haven't actually tried the rest of the game, yet (I played the heck out of it on the original xbox, but I couldn't pass up the deal Steam had for all the older Star Wars games, hehe), but when I finally tried to fire up Jedi Academy, I ran into this problem. It took me a couple of hours of reading and trying things, but I finally managed to get it to start up smoothly. Hopefully, the rest of the game works properly, as well. XD

I figured I couldn't be the only one (specifically, on Steam), so I decided to look around to see if I could offer the solution I found to anyone who had the same or a similar problem. So far, I've only posted it here, but, if you run into anyone else with the same trouble, feel free to pass on my solution! :)

Cheers, enjoy!
