OpenJK, JA++ and MBII

For plain FFA play, just install regular JA+. Most servers still use JA+ over JA++.

JA+ is outdated, and JA++ client-side is backwards compatible with JA+ servers. So get JA++ if you're joining a JA+ FFA server.

Regardless if people consider it "outdated"(only people who exploit the bugs are a small minority and these days no one crashes servers on a whim, JA++ shares similarities with JA+ as it is and the differences a negligible, more people complain about block settings and sabering in JA++ now than they do in JA+).

It works just fine with JA++. JA++ is just a mod trying to build off of JA+. Hence why in the server browser it shows up with JA+ "2.6". JA+ last version released was 2.4

JA++ still needs time to improve, since it is actively being worked on it is only a matter of time. But full conversion and replacement from JA+ to JA++? Not really a necessity at this point.

We're talking about client-side mods here, not server-side.

Get mb2 buddy, best mod ever
Solfosc 1 FEB 2015 a las 16:29
Where can I download JA++? I can just found JA+?
Zosoh 1 FEB 2015 a las 16:36
yeah i downloaded mb2 but everything is all buggy and glitchy. all the models just stand there with their arms up.

That means that whatever you have in your base folder is conflicting with MBII. For this reason, I use a completely separate install for MBII.
Zosoh 1 FEB 2015 a las 17:11
ahh :\
Lifevirus 3 FEB 2015 a las 11:58
Probably a noob question, but how do you do a separate install?
eternal 3 FEB 2015 a las 14:26
It's not a noob question, most people don't know how to do it.

To get the game running, all you need is the assets pk3s and the executables.
I'll list this in steps so that this is easy to follow.
  1. Create a new folder
  2. Inside this new folder, make another folder called "base" (no quotations)
  3. Navigate to ../SteamApps/common/Jedi Academy/GameData/base
  4. Copy assets0.pk3, assets1.pk3, assets2.pk3, and assets3.pk3 to your new base folder
At this point you are halfway there, all you need is an executable. You can either install OpenJK or get no-cd cracked executables (which may be illegal, but they are openly distributed).

OpenJK
(Note: At this time, MBII does not yet support OpenJK)
  1. Download the latest Windows OpenJK release from http://builds.openjk.org/
  2. Extract everything inside the zip file to your new install
  3. Run openjk.x86.exe to play multiplayer or openjk_sp.x86.exe for single player. Use openjkded.x86.exe to run your own dedicated server.
Folder structure:
OpenJK/ |- jagamex86.dll |- fabulous_openjk.pk3 base/ |- assets0.pk3 |- assets1.pk3 |- assets2.pk3 |- assets3.pk3 rdsp-vanilla_x86.dll rd-vanilla_x86.dll openjk_sp.x86.exe openjkded.x86.exe openjk.x86.exe
No-CD Cracked Executables
  1. Download your executables from a trusted source. I got mine from the HOWTO section here: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1713
  2. Extract jamp.exe and jasp.exe to your new install
  3. (Single Player) Copy jagamex86.dll from ../SteamApps/common/Jedi Academy/GameData to your new install
  4. Run jamp.exe to play multiplayer or jasp.exe for single player.
Folder structure:
base/ |- assets0.pk3 |- assets1.pk3 |- assets2.pk3 |- assets3.pk3 jagamex86.dll jamp.exe jasp.exe
Troubleshooting
If you are getting any startup errors, you may be missing some DLLs.
  1. Navigate to ../SteamApps/common/Jedi Academy/GameData
  2. Copy EaxMan.dll, IFC22.dll, and OpenAL32.dll to your new install. You are most likely only missing the OpenAL32.dll.

What about single player mods? Anything worthwhile? I don't have much interest in playing this game multiplayer, though MB2 might convince me otherwise.
^ same here... No time for MP – besides, heard the JA community calls fighting "lame" and prefers to just stand there doing nothing, lol. XD I found some singleplayer mods here: http://www.moddb.com/games/star-wars-jedi-academy/downloads and there: http://jediknight3.filefront.com/files/Jedi_Knight_III/Mods;2930 but am completely at loss as to which to download. :chainsaw:
