STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy™

STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy™

Why you suck at saber deflection?
In Jedi Outcast Kyle can deflect 100% of rapid blaster fire in a huge arc from 20 guys and turrets at once without taking a scratch. Kyle's hands move faster than sound. The loser you play as in academy can barely deflect one guys shots and gets hit half the time even at level 3 defence. His/Her hands move snow as ♥♥♥♥. Why is this? Playing all the Jedi Knight games in order for the first time and coming from Outcast to Academy makes you feel so weaksauce here compared.

use fast stance, you get better deflection. Also, you can force push projectiles here, so...

They nerfed it precisely so that you couldn't defeat 20 guys just by standing there and letting them kill themselves by shooting at you. Once you get level 2 saber defense in Outcast, the only threats capable of damaging you are saber wielders, snipers, and rocket launcher troopers, and the latter only because they're visually indistinguishable from any other stormtrooper, which allows them to blend in with the rest of the group and sneak their shots in without getting them Force pushed right back into their faces.

IIRC you didn't have perfect deflection in Jedi Knight 1 either, so Outcast is the outlier.

Younglings today. All they want is easy power and glory that comes with no need for wisdom and skill.

these young whippersnappers! Why, back in my day....

I'm 39 🤨. In general I've noticed most enemies in Academy are far less accurate and fire much slower than in Outcast so are easier to dodge by just sidestepping, and saber wielding enemies are much easier to beat compared to Outcast too. I guess I just prefer the more dangerous enemies in Outcast and Kyle's godlike powers to deal with them.

In this game, when you get to the end, you can get Kyle to beat you up instead.

Do you fight Kyle if you choose dark side powers? Coz logically you should lose terribly but I imagine the game would let you win easily.
Tetsuri May 13 @ 3:42pm
no. It's not like the 2 previous games. You can pick whatever powers you want, and only the Rosh choice matters, and you get to choose regardless of power selection.

But, yes, Kyle is the dark side fight.

Correct. AFAIK there's only one enemy who uses the secondary fire mode of his gun (Boba Fett). There are also fewer enemies in general. You never get to face the same hordes of stormtroopers that JO threw at you.

Depends on the game difficulty, but Kyle is the significantly more difficult of the two final bosses. And you still don't manage to actually kill him even if you win.

They come in much smaller groups in Academy as well. It's really noticeable when you go back to Outcast that the enemy density in that game is way higher, even before you get your lightsaber.

ya, I didn't really understand the comparison, honestly. Academy is like JK 1. Easy to hit things with saber. OP attacks. Huge difference between them and Outcast. Hard to hit anything with any weapon. Enemies will outright kill you with snipe so you can't just use saber even if you wanted to. Maybe you had to have good deflection because you sure weren't going to be slashing ppl wit lightsaber, lol.
