Speaking as a single saber Chad player your only option is to get in their face. You're gonna lose an intersection block in a vertical strike, personally I'd just move in straight lines holding D and LMB instead of wasting time on vertical which probably won't connect and leave me open. Read your opponent's movement and close the gap, and don't get poked for 200 dmg.

your most powerful attack is LMB and RMB at the same time, it's slow but powerful and forces people out of your face

You'll have more luck having someone fall for the butterfly jump (which you can steer) than that, lmao

i've done it a few times, it's better at scaring them away, combine it with normal attacks to confuse them

If you have to be rooted to the spot for an attack, you're just asking for it. Red style has a gigantic wind up, so it's on the staff player to be aggressive, and for the single player to stay at arms (sword) length, not the other way around.

I don't find staff players fun to duel against but I'm open to some friendly sparring. You'll have more luck asking another staff player for tips and tricks, some of them are really good, despite popular opinion of the opposite.

i did that earlier and it helped a lot. on another note, while i have your attention. ive also been trying out the single saber and it seem that you cant block at all with it. do you have to swing the single saber to "block" with it?

In BaseJKA idle block is pretty inconsistent, especially with red style because it's a straight vertical stance. Crouching helps a lot in that situation, and as always aim at the opponent's saber hilt. Still better to evade with movement than gamble on idle block.
Intersection block works how you'd expect, yeah, just don't go swining yellow stance into a red swing.
