Base still have some player, nowaday it's mostly JA+ and MB2 indeed.

If you are interested in a JA+ experience closer to base than MB2 you should come around on JoF server : /connect public.jofhub.eu

^agreed! JOF is the best server, hands down.

Kurgan's Meatgrinder (my server, if you hadn't guessed) runs OJPBasic 24/7... meaning the gameplay is basically the same just with bug fixes and a few visual extras (holstered weapons, gibs from explosions, RGB sabers, smarter bots). I use High damage lightsabers and a rotation of FFA, CTF and Siege (duel maps are run in FFA mode too in between).

Moviebattles has its place but it was never anything I was interested in compared to the basic game.

That sounds promising Kurgan. Does your server show up on vanilla? I dabbled in mb2 but it was a bit drastic(plus I can't stomach disney content).

Where does one go to find the latest JA+? I'm still not sure how finding these server etc works.

you don't need JA+ or any other mod to find my server (sorry you're on your own finding it)
just type in the IP address and the port and join away.
everything you need will be there already (I recommend you DON'T join with Moviebattles II, everything will be all messed up if you do).

Add us to your favorites! I use Qtracker to monitor the server (it's free, search it online)

I think if you just search for new games and go looking, you will never, ever find it, but if you add a new favorite and type in the IP (and the port) you will see it and you will never have a problem finding my server. You can also go here for some classic strategy: https://web.archive.org/web/20180531175834/http://strategy.jediknight.net:80/jka/setup_basic.shtml

OJP Basic (Open Jedi Project) is basically a bug-fixed version of "vanilla" multiplayer. It stops certain exploits, it allows you to gib each other with weapons, full dismemberment, holstered weapons, RGB lightsabers, hidden hilts enabled, RGB colors (on custom jedi characters), and better bots (that can actually play Siege with you). A few hidden console commands are put back into the menus.
It's barely noticeable which is good. You can join the Meatgrinder server without it, but it will be slightly enhanced if you have it installed.
