STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy™

How do I play this game?
I'm really trying to get into the singleplayer aspect of the game but I'm having a hell of a time. I'm used to Movie Battles 2's take on lightsaber mechanics, namely being able manually hold a button to block incoming blasterfire / saber swings. Here it feels like it's an RNG crapshoot whether or not I'll block something or not. I'm losing far too much HP and getting my ass handed to me on any stage I go to.

Very helpful. I can now beat the game blindfolded with an arm tied behind my back and only using half of a Wii balance board on max difficulty. For your wisdom I am forever in debt to you as your servant :steammocking:.

I've found it's best not to rely on the blocking.
In Outcast you could just sit and rebound blaster fire till everyone is dead but in this you fail too often (which makes sense you aren't as experience as Katarn)
Most of the blasters fire slow enough that just not keeping still is usually enough to avoid them at distance and then just getting in there and hacking them down or using push and pull to disrupt them.
Kill enemies in batches then get away to heal, rinse, repeat. Oh and quicksave.
Force speed seems to be the most useful power outside of heal. Especially in lightsaber battles. Activate it then try to run behind you opponent and hit them.
It's not particularly elegant and I am sure more experience players have better tactics but it seems to be the most reliable way for me.
I'm only playing on normal difficulty so if these fail at higher difficulties maybe someone better than me has some advice.

Hope that helps.

Thank you. I've actually just cleared the first five missions. I've maxed out force grip, and when combined with force pull I've become unstoppable. Trying out lightning but even level 2 seems to not do much outside of draining my force power. As far as lightsaber battles are concerned apparently I can just spam standard M1 attack until they die. I'd really like to learn how to make it a more technical / intimate experience.

No problem. I finished the game today, once you get to level 3 on your passive defense power then you can do like in Outcast and sit back deflecting all the blaster shots.
I played full Jedi so I either used protect and absorb to cover me from most attacks or protect and speed and just ran round their attacks, worked to the end.

Until you get to saber defense lvl 3 (act 3), don't count on deflecting. Move sideways from blaster fire, jump, use Force push often (especially on higher difficulties). If you go for Force lightning, use it on lvl 3 to clear trash room fast. The biggest problem is sniper rifle dudes until act 3 and those with 2 last weapons (rocket launcher and whatever-its-name rifle), Force protect helps a LOT against those.
As for fighting sith, there is hella cheesy way. Get Force grip to lvl 3, use it on them, they push you after some time and (!) stay idle for 2 seconds, allowing you to slash them with no problems.

Lightning rank 1 and 2 are useless but 3 instant kills most things lol old game logic (not to mention it blasts fools back 50 yards like FUS-RO-DAH from skyrim) Also for early on I used Force protection and speed to charge into the fray and lightsaber them before I took too much damage. Force heal was another essential for me early on.
