there never was cross play for this old game, sorry to bust the bubble on that.

dude wtf that sounds impossible
Vegetto71 Jan 8, 2021 @ 12:05pm
its not impossible cross play is for some older games but the jedi knight series were never one of them and besides the original xbox server are gone so that would be impossible at this point anyways on that fact, cross play wasn't even thought of back when jedi knight series came out

When the Switch and PS4 versions came out, people complained that they were getting "owned" right out of the gate by pc players. a leaked list of IPs let you join their servers. sadly by the time I found out about it, it had been patched.

the Xbox version was released on Xbox live gold as a compatible game for Xbox 360 (and Xbox One) but the multiplayer (even the local one) was glitched and didn't work... so it was single player only that time.

So yeah, unless there's some work around, you're stuck playing pc players.

doubtful dude, i've had it for years and never came across that on the xbox version or PC version, don't know about the switch or PS4 versions

you could only play the original xbox version of Jedi Academy on the xbox. when it was released as a "gold" downloadable game on Xbox 360, the multiplayer was completely unusable. it actually locks up and forces you to restart even if you try to play a bot match or local game!

This issue never came up until the PS4/Switch releases of JKA/JO, and sadly they had patched it by the time I knew crossplay was (briefly) possible. So for now you're just going to be playing other PC players (whether on Windows or MacOS) or only other console players if you are on console.

Jedi Outcast on the original Xbox (and other consoles) didn't have any online play mode, so that was never an issue. Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight and its expansion Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith were released for Windows (95 was current at the time), they were never ported to any other operating systems, officially... until they were added to Steam and GOG.

not true, I've played plenty of bot matches on jedi academy and Jedi outcast on the Xbox and never had an issue with it also in fact its still playable on multiplayer via xlink kai and yes Jedi outcast has multiplayer on the Xbox version it however doesn't on the switch version since i do own it.

I'm not talking about the original Xbox. Jedi Academy (JKA) was a PC game originally, and it was first ported (after MacOS and Linux) to the original Xbox, and I'm sure it played fine on that console as intended. the original xbox's multiplayer servers are terminated, so the only games you can still play that way are the ones that had LAN support (which Xlink kai simulates over the internet if you're part of their community) and local play.

When I say it doesn't work I when you run it on Xbox 360. I don't have an Xbox One (and no longer have an original Xbox), so I can't test it there. but on 360, if you try to load any form of multiplayer in JKA, even a botch match in solo, it starts to load and then freezes. I haven't tried it since it was a "games with gold" release. that's another thing this is the GWG download, not the original disc. I have never used XLink Kai. I know about it, I just haven't had 50 "quality forum posts" yet. keep forgetting about it. Point is the "cross play" for the recent console release supposedly worked, but they quickly patched it. I don't know how long it was working, maybe a week or two? by the time I knew about it people were saying it no longer worked.

So I just continue to play JKA on my pc, and I use my own dedicated server which is open to anyone (in theory) who has the IP and port entered.

So how did you connect to an Xbox One server from your pc? The Xbox One player would have been running the original xbox version, as would the xbox 360 user, and like I said, it doesn't actually work (unless it has been patched in the months since it was made available). Or were they using the disc version? So many questions.

Last I checked XlinkKai only simulates LAN (system-link) connections over the internet. But I'm telling you on 360 this game would crash before you could even play a bot match! None of the MP modes worked. It's not a PC game where you can play around with drivers or edit server list files. Are these people using modded consoles?

JKA on consoles was an original Xbox title. it was re-released awhile back as a "Games with Gold" freebie for the 360 and One but the multiplayer didn't work (it's using the emulation for original Xbox titles).

I'd like to believe you but I'd like to see some proof if you don't mind.

The way the cross play on nintendo switch worked was that there were a set list of IPs that were being used and if the PC users entered those, they could "ambush" someone's game who was playing off of the console. But if these are simulated LAN games, well somebody surely has captured video of it working?

its never worked dude, i have both Xbox original/360/XB1 game of Jedi academy and PC version and its never been able to play cross platforms ever and neither has battlefront 1 and 2, i know this for a fact and without a shadow of a doubt my guy, its different servers back then, I've played them since day one they came out and have the battlefront series on PC, XB and PS2 so no there's never been a way to play cross platform with anyone else but the system you play it on.

I thought so! I only heard it was the PS4/Switch version of JK2/JA and then that was quickly patched so it doesn't work anymore outside your own platform.
