STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy™

STAR WARS™ Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy™

What's so great?
I got the JK series on sale since The Last Jedi came out. The first two games weren't that great and after a few hours of gameplay I skipped them (already having skipped several parts of the first because the levels were a pain to play) and skipped to this, the game everyone loves. The SP seems, eh, decent-ish. The MP isn't really that great though, just running around swinging lightsabers...is there something I'm missing?

Edit Dec 26th 2017: Ok first I think most people (and this is mostly my fault) have taken this to be more negative than I intended. Also I have played this more and my views have improved, though not totally changed. I would have thought there would be more to it, but it is still better than any other lightsaber combat game I've played

EDIT: Dec 30th 2017

Played it more now, its a fun game and one of my new favorites, what I expected was a bit different involving more saberlocks and combos etc but this is a good game. One thing is that I met someone who showed a lot of stuff.

Mostly a nostalgia thing for most people, certainly including me. That's not to say that that's the only good thing about the game, as this is probably the only Star Wars game that actually treats lightsabers like actual fking lightsabers. None of that baseball-bat whacking nonsense from EA's Battlefronts.

You should check out MODDB for some conversion mods like Movie Duels or Movie Battles if you're into prequel stuff.

Jedi knight outcast is great the first game also Dark forces is great if you run the control fixes an such. Its played more for nostalgia than anything but its still a great game. This game is great

something tells me tho that you enjoy EA's "Baseball-bat whacking" sabering tho if your saying this. The game has pretty great sabering considering its age even today beats EA hands down. lol if sabering is too easy for you in this play harder difficulty or run mods.

If you want true Multiplayer load up Moviebattles 2 Community is always active almost 24/7 has lot of people too fixed alot of "baseball bat whacking" crap from EA's game

For clarification, I meant lightsabers in EA's games (as well as every other Star Wars game) are treated like bats instead of superheated beams of plasma that can slice a limb off with a flick of a wrist. That's why I have always loved Jedi Knight.

If you can't tell what makes a star wars game actually good we honestly can not help you.

Stick to KOTOR with their ever so engaging and action packed point and click attacking.

I'd recommend the old republic mmo or mass effect for you since they're both basically rip offs of KOTOR from the same dev.

So this is the most populated for multiplayer?

You really should give the dark forces/Jedi knight series a chance. If you can get past the visuals, then you have the best star wars games ever made with amazing level design(except Jedi academy) and lightsaber combat

Nothing to do with the visuals, I play plenty of older games. It's actually the level design that drove me off. I kept running around getting no where. Then on Dark Forces on level 3 (or so) I had to turn on the power and I kept just barely missing this one jump and had to go around the whole map like 3 times in a row, and while it is kind of pathetic to miss the jump it shouldn't be something where you have to march through half the map just to miss the jump again.

I love KotOR 1 and 2 because of the great story telling, the gameplay isnt bad but it's not good either. I knew that these games stories wouldn't be that great but outside of KotOR I'm not sure there's a single game I've ever played for it's story. Anyways, the idea of an in depth lightsaber combat game seemed amazing to me, but honestly, it doesn't seem that in depth. IDK. It probably wouldnt hurt to try mods, but the game has amazing reviews (even the bad ones mostly just say they can't get it to work but back in the day they loved it) so it's a bit of a let down. It's not a bad game but it seemed to me like there must have been something I didn't understand for everyone to find it so great.

Also, several things could make a Star Wars game good. I like KotOR for its story, Empire at War and Battlefront 2 (the 2005 one) for their gameplay, one being stategy the other FPS. But from what I have seen from this the lightsaber combat is barely a step up from BFII which is kind of a let down.

No you'd be surprised this is the most indepth it can be unless you want to play an old arcade game which had a joy stick you could fight vader with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhkNzn9HoGo

Or invest in a wii and xbox kinect for 360 they had star wars games where you could "control" your lightsaber in any direction to dodge blasters and duel. There is also a VR game on steam with the same concept but it is VR who has the money for that?

anyways, Ive played it a bit more and its not a bad game, its just not so great either. I give it a C+

Jk2 and Jka are two of the best Star Wars games to date. Amazing saber control, good story, beats the hell of out the new Movie series + EA battlefronts.

this game is only Lightsaber Simulation we have, the lightsaber combat actually depth in this game and you say lightsaber in this game is barely a step up from BFII? lol. you will only get your self killed in 1v1 dual with decent player if you random swing lightsaber like a mad man.

I think Jedi Academy has many problems, mostly in level design and lack of polish in some parts, however, what makes it so cool is how much it makes you feel like an actual jedi. There's simply no other game to this date that's nailed light saber combat as well as this game has, and the customization and sense of progression add a lot to it. Sure it's not perfect, but it's pretty unique and amazing in it's own way.
