Heal and Drain not working?

I hadn't played JA in years and I felt like doing another playthrough. However, I found out Drain isn't working for me at all. Nor does Heal. Has anyone else encountered this? And somehow fixed it?
I put points in there, but it just won't work - not with the assigned key, not from the powers menu. I have no mods whatsoever. I tried reinstalling, creating new characters, assigning new keys, even running in compatibility mode for XP (I have Win7) - nothing. Other powers like lightning work, but not Heal and Drain? Am I missing something? I googled for the problem, but found no solution.

i mean, it could be a couple things, try narrowing down the issues with helpusobi 1 and giveforceall 3 and see if its a force level thing

Thanks for the suggestion! It may have fixed it. I messed around with the cheats, different saves and a new character. In some cases it didn't work, in some it did. Like setforceall gave me the abilities, but those two still didn't work. I used playermodel, then they started working. Another time they didn't work with setforceall 1, but worked with 3. Then I loaded one save where I hadn't tired anything, just my single point in Drain and it worked! Restarted the game - still worked. I have no idea what this black magic is, but I think I fixed it. Thank you again for the help!
