Magical Jester is surprisingly robust. It's hard to find but it's well worth it.You can airdash as much as you want as long as you pound the dash button, sometimes while you're airdashing you'll prevent damage being done to you, your jumps have a little float to them, your basic attack is ranged, charged it becomes a death beam, and with a full special bar it turns into a long lasting meteor spell. Plus as a bonus, it has a funny stand still animation.
For Combat though, Bat might not seem like much, but the spinning air attack EATS through boss lifebars and being able to use your basic form's charge blast is very useful for when it's not a good idea to close the distance.
I tend to prefer mobility powers (Board, Wind, etc.), but they can be their own obstacles on bosses (there's more than a few places where Wind's basic attack combo's pushback'll completely hose you). I think the best balance of mobility and offense might be Edgy Jester, but that balance also means he doesn't particularly stand out in any real way.
I've only encountered Ice once and wasn't a huge fan of it in my few moments trying it out. I can see the usefulness, but it's little bit more technical than my frantic, flailing self is inclined to keep as his stock.
Let's face it, there's no contest when you can smash someone's skull in with a hammer.
Ice and Fire are great for up close quarter beat downs. I like Ice slightly more cause you can spawn a icey platform in the air and it also has a way better charge attack.
Hammer, Sword, or Bat is okay if I can't find Ice or Fire.
Gravity, I didn't even know exists (until reading it here). And I'm at Sunfire forest. So...if I ever find it in this game I'll try it.
Edgy and Knight are ok. I only get them until I find something better. I do wonder how Edgy's charge attack compares to Ice? Might have to test that. And Knight does have shield, I just wish it felt more mobile.
For regular enemies Mage and Archer are ok. For bosses, I'd rather be default Spark rather then use them. Default Spark has a useful drop kick, charge attack, and attack combo. Compared to that, Mage and Archer borderline on being crappy power ups.
Board is surprisingly bland for me. Great for water in that you don't sink and for speed. Otherwise, it is the weakest in terms of utility. Does decent damage to the weaker bosses. Personally, I try to change it out if I find better power ups. Otherwise, I appreciate the speed and its buoyancy.
I may have to try Magical Jester again to see what that's like. I barely used it.
