As for packs - and thats just a personal preference and how I began - I went for Blackwings and don't regret it until today (atleast 2 months, I guess?). Although it would be better to unlock Crow first (which wont happen that soon as a beginner) + for more use it would be maybe wise to have some additional synchro-monsters, which don't require any specific cards (or atleast nothing, which you shouldn't have in a BW-deck), but I believe the pack even had something like that in it. But even if you are a bit unlucky, it can be helpful to mix this archetype with the other dragon/winged beast archetype, which are in the same pack. Atleast if you haven't enough for pure BW-deck.
Though I hope you didn't mean for PvP, since I rarely play that. These cards can be helpful there (the BWs even got me, to my own surprise, some nice victories in the last PvP event), but there are probably other players here, which can give better advices than me.
Vandread is new but you need ritual stuff from other packs to use them to the point of meta
Magnet Warriors are a good way to get powerful monsters in fast by bait and sacrificing, you probably want to get regular Magnets and Delta requires some stuff but overall your best bet, now if you want to save gems and time get Triamid, everything you need is there only a few SR needed and they are a good counter to anything, only thing though is you need Luna for their full potential
