Are old decks still viable or is the game purely becoming a one trick XYZ pony?

I am facing only XYZ decks in ranked. Back in 2019 when I used to play the game there were so many more interesting decks from the older series. Now there is none. The game has lost its identity with all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ series after GX.

I agree, after GX it really went downhill. Ideally though I'd want to go back to pre-GX times. Now *those* were the good ol' days, the only issue being lack of cards.

There is so much ♥♥♥♥ on the field now that the core game is just plain unrecognisable. Too much synergy from cards that were never meant/designed to synergise with the decks they work well with.

Right? I played a match against someone recently who had 0 monsters on the field and then ended up in a 10 minute round where he discarded and kept getting monsters back from graveyard and from his deck to his hand and summoned 3 monsters with 3000+ attack and effects like "Destroy all spell/trap cards" and "Destroy all monsters who's defense is higher than your monster" and he just one shots me after that. How unfun is that...

Agreed 100%. I keep seeing pendulum decks as well and I simply can't work out how they were allowed in the game in the first place. Same with xyz. With base game cards, there's restrictions on what you can and can't do per turn, like normal summon multiple cards/special summon with/without costs or drawbacks. Pendulums and xyz seems to just ignore those basic things, especially pendulums in which you can seemingly summon pretty much whatever you want, as much as you want per turn, which really breaks the game for players not using those cards.

I used to secretly despise red eye's decks for being annoyingly powerful vs what I played but now I actually relish whenever I see them in the wild, because it really is just a sea of xyz and pendulum decks nowadays.

You're not only facing XYZ in rank... You're facing many decks its the fact you only foucs on XYZ to ignore everything else. This is a player issue due to the fact rank provides all sort of decks and cards to be use. Old decks still playable and often being use to beat new decks. Not every deck can win all the time that doesn't mean old decks are worthless. Like any deck takes time to really see. Been using GX deck "Ancient Gear" so fun to play with. You're not force to use new decks and cards so no worries there. Like any other new deck you have to learn how to beat it.

Want a easier time make a round about deck this method is use for covering every surface with wins up to over 60% to 70% of the time. Strengthen the deck it can win more.

Probably because XYZ decks are so ridiculously powerful (and popular) that we are focusing mainly on them. And the thing is, I see far more XYZ and Pendulum than regular base game decks and I suspect I'm not the only one (as OP can clarify) with the opinion that they break the game at it's core.

XYZ/Syncro summoning really flatlined yugioh. They're extremely unrestrained and it's really bs when your opponent can just XYZ/syncro multiple times in a round yet Fusion/ritual cards are still restrained by old outdated rules.

But pendulum has them both beat by far. Pendulum has to be the absolute biggest BS in all of yugioh and really shows how desperate the card game is to be relevant again.

But they don't care, as long as the sweatlords keep shilling out those credit cards for the meta decks.

Duel Link despite or Master Duel or the real game is based on fast game.

The duel link ranked is like the TGC rn, that's all about tier deck no matter if the deck is cool to play or not. Tier 1 would be defeat by a Tier 1 basicly. That's how ranked works..."

No one is "crying", We're just pointing out how far the game has sunk. What is your data that pendulum monsters are the "most appreciate cards" of the franchise? Show your data.

The facts are: XYZ/synchro/pendulum decks get to skirt rules other decks get choked to death over. There are outdated rules that flatline older decks while making these pendulum/XYZ decks OP to the point where you almost have to play one or build your deck specifically to fight them.

Irl or in-game ygh in a competitive version is actually normal to play theses decks.
The better cards, the betters strats will make you win.
Duel Link, Master Duel or Irl TCG comp that's like this.

No one will play a fantasy or a fan base deck in ranked lmao.

You probably didn't know when the XYZ cards came out but I can remember how every ygh player were exited too see them and to play them.

XYZ cards has been released so years ago Duel Link had to wait years to got them.
I can't give you data sadly, ygh isn't considered enough to have some specials blogs about this, search on reedit u may found.

But that's truly a fact. Pendulum deck are just awesome to play, irl or in-game, same for the XYZ with their quick desk setup.

Every real yu gi oh fan, ex pro, current pro or thoses semi pro on the games will agreed with me. Without theses cards, yu-gi-oh would be poor and borring to play.
