Deck Update: Sylvans!
If you participated in the Kaiba Corporation Cup or you compete in PvP Ranked Duels, you’ve probably encountered Duelists using Sylvan Decks. You might even be using Sylvans yourself. Here’s a quick guide to how Sylvan Decks work and some tips for beating them.

(1.) The Sylvan Monsters

The Sylvan monsters are at the heart of any Sylvan Deck. Each Sylvan monster excavates (reveals) cards from the top of the Deck and sends excavated Plant-type monsters to the Graveyard. Each Sylvan monster also has an effect that activates when it’s excavated from the Deck and sent to the Graveyard by a card effect. Since each of the Sylvan monsters is a Plant-type monster, they work together to excavate one another and trigger their effects.

Here are some of the effects that activate when each of the most popular Sylvan monsters is excavated and sent to the Graveyard:
- Sylvan Komushroomo: Targets a Spell or Trap Card on the field and destroys it.
- Sylvan Marshalleaf: Targets a monster on the field and destroys it.
- Sylvan Hermitree: Rearranges the top 3 cards of your Deck.
- Sylvan Guardioak: Targets a Plant-type monster in your Graveyard and places it on top of your Deck.

Tips for countering the Sylvan monsters: The Sylvans rely on excavating cards and sending those cards to the Graveyard to get the Deck off the ground. You can use Different Dimension Ground (available in Generation Next) to banish all monsters that would be sent to the Graveyard for the turn and prevent the effects of the Sylvans from activating when they’re excavated. Most Sylvan Decks count on using the effect of Sylvan Komushroomo to excavate many cards from the top of the Deck when it flips up, so destroying it or sending it to the Graveyard while it’s still face-down will help you eliminate one of the Deck’s most powerful cards for getting the Sylvan engine running.

(2.) Rose Lover and World Carrotweight Champion

Rose Lover and World Carrotweight Champion aren’t Sylvan monsters, but they’re both Plants. That means that if they’re excavated by the effect of a Sylvan monster, they’re sent to the Graveyard. Both monsters have powerful effects that can be used from the Graveyard.

You can banish Rose Lover from the Graveyard to Special Summon a Plant-type monster from your hand. If you do, that monster is unaffected by your opponent’s Trap effects for the turn. This effect of Rose Lover is used to Special Summon high-Level Sylvans like Hermitree and Guardioak without Tribute.

You can Special Summon World Carrotweight Champion from your Graveyard by sending a Plant-type monster from your hand or face-up from your field to the Graveyard. Since World Carrotweight Champion has 1900 ATK, that makes it easy for a Sylvan Duelist to slam an extra 1900 points of damage onto the field and use those Attack Points to wipe out an opponent.

Tips for countering Rose Lover: Don’t use your Trap Cards on monsters Special Summoned by Rose Lover the turn Rose Lover’s effect is activated. Seriously. Don’t do it. Rose Lover makes the monster unaffected. Save them for the next turn. You can, however, still use Quick-Play Spell Cards like Enemy Controller and Super Rush Headlong against monsters Summoned by Rose Lover on the turn they’re Summoned.

Tips for countering World Carrotweight Champion: Always be wary of the fact that your opponent can Special Summon this monster from the Graveyard to add another 1900 ATK to the table on any given turn. Take that into consideration when deciding which Spells and Traps to Set. Be careful about sending cards from your opponent’s hand to the Graveyard as well, since sending World Carrotweight Champion or Rose Lover to the Graveyard could help your opponent.

(3.) Assorted Spell/Trap Cards

Most Sylvan Decks are packed with monsters and splash a couple of Spell and/or Trap Cards. Enemy Controller is the most popular Spell in Sylvan Decks, since it can be used to Tribute an easily Summoned World Carrotweight Champion and take an opponent’s monster. Some Sylvan Duelists use Divine Wrath or Ultimate Providence to negate monster effects while discarding Rose Lover or World Carrotweight Champion. Be on the lookout for these cards while Dueling against Sylvans.

Sylvans are a fast Deck that’s easy to build using cards available in the Rampage of the Forest Mini BOX. Are you a Sylvan Duelist? If so, what do you enjoy about using Sylvans. If not, what’s your strategy for defeating Sylvans?

Your tips to counter Sylvans are half hearted (dont use traps against Rose lover summoned plants... really!), and will not make you win with a high chance, and it just shows how overpowered this deck is. Instead of these tips, even if well intended, they should finally be limited/banned, THEN we can have our fun game back.

Its really sad how OTK decks and overpowered cards ruin this game.

So I should use Mirror Wall to counter a rose lover? I'll try it

just ban/limit the ♥♥♥♥, if not revise your ranking system because it's hard as ♥♥♥♥ now to get a winstreak going with these luck based OTK decks. Counters don't mean jack if you don't get them in your opening hand.
The best way to nerf sylvans is either release more magic cards to counter rose lover OR limit rose lover to 1. It's rose lover that carry sylvan deck on its own. Limit her and the deck dies.

Yeah, but Rose Lover plays in a lot of decks, like Aromages and Lightsworn Plants. I'd just limit the Leaf guy, since he's only a (rare?).

What has worked to me is to watch out for the sylvan that targets up to 5 monster from the graveyard and sends them to the deck, once I'm able to know where are those monsters it is somewhat simple to deck out with warm worm. Even though I still lose most of the games

Oh I'll give you a tip vs sylvans.

If opponent discards cards to grave yard and one of them is carrot heavy weight champion. Surrender.

Also surrender if you start second and do not have kill cards.

Also surrender if you start first and do not have ultimate providence.

Also flood konami with emails so they STOP USING ARC V ERA CARDS ON ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GX ERA GAME.
yeah we know all of that. but is useless silvan is so consistent GX decks dont stand a chance unless they play completely against them, just dont release more archtipes from ZEXXAL, ARC-V or V-RAINS we are tired of surrender against them.

just watch youtubers they cannot test decks anymore. silvans, geargia and D-masked just smash them like bugs. even youtubers just surrender

I'm not saying you should run only this deck, but decks exist that stop Sylvan. I used to be really scared of them but I started running a REZ deck and went from KC Cup Rank 16 to 20 with only one (brick) loss to Sylvans.

They are a swarm deck that counts on effects, so a mixture of Wall of Disruption and cards that negate effects (Forbidden Chalice is incredible here, as is Ultimate Providence) will stop them cold. Adding in Enemy Controller for the Rose Lover summoned cards. Here's my decklist for those interested, it's not really that groundbreaking and maybe I was lucky, but like I said, through probably 20+ matchups with Sylvan I lost one time.

Bonz with Straight to the Grave Skill

Gozuki x2 Usually this is to get REZ to the grave, but I often found myself using it to send the
other Gozuki to the grave to swarm the field for mid-early board advantage.

Red Eyes Zombie (REZ) x2

Heavy Knight of the Flame x2 Wasn't as big a help as I thought. Thinking about -1 and +1 Gozuki

Samurai Skull x3 Don't bother if you don't have 3 of this. Summon it early, summon it often. And don't be afraid to attack Komushroomo with it because you won't lose the board position.

Cosmic Cyclone x1 For Sea Stealth Attack, but helps shut down the Ultimate Providence of Sylvan.

Forbidden Chalice x1 Negates the milling effect, especially on Komushroomo. A must have.

Red Eyes Instinct x1

Super Rush Headlong x1 For Citadel Whale but a nice ace in the hole for the big plant cards and ignores Rose Lover because it is a spell card.

Enemy Controller x2 Best card in the game.

Wall of Disruption x2

Red Eyes Spirit x2

Ultimate Providence x2 Nice because RES works from the grave so it may not hurt you if you dump REZ.
a lot of decks are defeating silvans rigth now but its only because the entire comunity is playing around them. we are so aware of silvans that we lose against the other 3 tier 1 decks and of course a lot of silvan players are really bad players who only play silvans because they are so strong.

for example I have defeated a lot of silvan players using counter fairyes but i noticed they make silly mistakes like activate his effects, this is just dummy against a counter fairy deck but of course they are just trolls who want easy wins
Please , charge more cards
Did make a suggestion here:

Playing the same deck over and over is NOT skill.
