Just a few tips for the new players
Since this game is now available on steam, many new people will probably want to know a few things:

1)When you make friends with someone in game, you can send the vagabond (he's a random duelist that give a LOT of exp depending on his challenge) to a friend. ALWAYS choose the "1 card" challenge. Why? Because it's the challenge that gives the most exp even if you lose.

2)Speaking of which, never surrender dueling against Standard Duelists (SD), legendary duelists (LDs) and Vagabond, who are the random npcs that spawn over time. You always get a little exp and one or two (if you did a lot of stuff, like tribute summon, used glossy cards, special summoned, etc.) rewards when you lose.

3)You can unlock skills for the LDs by dueling against other LDs or by leveling up. Some characters have unique skills that are worth farming to obtain.

4)When you unlock the card merchant (stage 7, if I'm not mistaken), avoid randomly buying SR and UR cards unless you really need them for a deck. I say this because SR and UR stones are scarce for new players so you need to spend them wisely depending on the deck you want. Mind you that gold and the elemental sones can only be used (so far) with the card trader

5)If you don't know which box to buy first in order to get a decent deck for PVP, buy Dawn of destiny. It's a mini box with 80 packs and invest your early gems to get 3 phoenix and get the naturia cards. Why? Because you can use naturias with a charactar that has the skill beatdown (Kaiba and crowler) and phoenix can be used with several skills, like balance, restart and beatdown. Plus tribute to the doomed is a good removal card.

6)You can't trade cards with other players, but you can have duels with friends.

7)Try get atleast 60 victories in ranked every month to get 2 SR tickets. Every month we have a ranked rewards based on your wins. there are good rewards up until 100 victories, after that you get a few gems and gold after a bunch more victories. with 60 victories, you can get 2 normal, 2 rare and 2 super rare tickets, you can tarde them for a set of cards (some are drops from LDs other are exclusive from these rewards). It's highly advised to get 3 enemy controlers with your first SR tickets because Kaiba is quite hard to farm early on. You can get a third SR ticket with yout 100th victory, but it requires some grinding.

Start grabbing overused spells and traps like Super Headlong Rush, Mirror Wall, Wall of Disruption. These cards can get you through the whole game even with crap ass monsters. They are just that powerful and (un)fair.

It depends on the type of deck you want to build. If you want to make a good cyber angel deck (which is currrently one of the strongest decks). You'll need sonic bird (from ultimate rising ) and senju (from neo impact).

But even if you don't want to make a cyber angel deck, these two packs are good to invest because of the following cards:

1)ultimate rising:

a)sphere kuriboh (is a good defense card because many people are using AG and a card called anti-magic arrow, which seals your entire backrow for the battle phase and Sphere Kuriboh can be a life saver, plus, it can also be used to ritual summon from the graveyard if you are using relinquished decks)

b)mask of accursed: a must have if you intend to play as a burn deck (you need 2-3 copies if you want to play as a burn deck)

c)wonder ballons: use this mostly if you don't have pumpkin princess and have some graveyard synergy.

d)4 starred ladybug: can be great to stop the oponent's early game.

e)Order of charge: great for venus decks and for any deck centered in normal monsters

f)Twister: decent trap/spell removal, but in the current meta it's not really used anymore because people aren't running many continuous traps/spells and equip spells that much.

g)fusion gate: can be used to summon fusions in case don't have space in your backrow to use poly. But remember that fusion gate banishes monsters while poly sends them to graveyard

2)Neo impact:

a)meteor B dragon: is mostly used for farming SDs. It's rarely ever used in pvps

b)stamping destruction: decent spell/trap removal in dragon decks. It eliminates even face down cards, but, be warned that the oponent can chain their spell/trap. For example, suppose the enemy has enemy controler face down and you use stamping on it. The enemy can still activate the enemy controller, but they'll still recieve 500 damage from it.

c)Mirror wall: this is the best card of this pack (and is a very good card indeed). Many say to get 3 copies of it, but I leave that up to your own choice, I personally only have 1 copy.

d)half shut: good for stalling decks. You can use it on your defense monster and it won't be destroyed that turn (but be wary of piercing damage).

e)regretful rebirth: pretty much only useful in mill decks to get warm worm back for an extra 3 cards milled form your oponent.

f)shooting star bow: pretty much only useful in cerberus decks and cerberus decks are only used to farm some LDs to get their exclusive cards.

Other mini packsa that are good to invest are:

3)Flame of the tyrant:

a)get 3 sargent electros (they are awsome to freeze your oponent's backrow),

b)3 warm worms (if you want mill decks) and

c)golden apples (usually good for destiny draw decks because they give your hp back and a monsster to protect you.

4)servants of kings:

a) 3 wall of disruption (they are also very good and can be stronger than mirror wall because their effect remains after they leave the field, BUT they can only be activated in the battle phase, while you can activate mirror wall any time you want);

b)draining shield is awsome in stall/mill/burn decks

c)vorse raider and birthright are good for normal monster based decks.

and finally:

5)Generation next:

a)horus decks are awsome to shut down any deck that relies on spells

b)floogate trap hole is debated to be the best trap of the game so far (even better than mirror wall some might say)

c)king of the swamp is a must if you want to use fusion decks that DON'T use fusion gate.

Also, avoid Land of Titans. It's the worst pack. No meta defining cards there. The Beast archetype is meh at best.

Another small tip: blast held by tribute does not work on toons.

Even If you have to tribute to summon a toon skull or toon blue eyes, they still count as special summon, not triggering blast held

Another small tip: No one runs Blast Held by a Tribute

True. But there was a time when I was a newbie that I used blast held in a burn deck and I discovered that in the hard way. So I had to share.

eh, i ran it for a while when the game was new, since people ran tribute monsters more. But now no one really tribute summons anymore, and I doubt that card will be played again unless Monarchs become meta.
