Examples of monster whose summoning can be negated are Chaos Dragon Levianeer, Thunder Dragon Duo, Blue-Eyes Alternative, Cyber Dragon and many more..
Special summoning mechanic such as Synchro summoning of a Lv5 or higher or contact fusion can be negated as well..
Roach can not negate the special summoning of monsters that can start a chain or via an effect of a card.. Indicators are the colon ":" and semi-colon ";".
Example, Desperado, Fusion summon via a fusion spell..
I know there are TCG judges in the steam community so I hope the jump in this thread so they can explain it better than I did..
If you are talking about Steelswarm Roach, it negates summons that does not start a chain link (Levianeer, cyber dragon, blue eyes alternative, synchros etc...) summons like fusions (using polymerazation or any other fusion spell) start chain links so does cannot be negated by Roach
Steelswarm roach is the rank 4 xyz that negates special summons of lvl5 monsters at the cost of materials, however it only negates the special summon of those that do not start a chain link.
Examples of what it can stop are blue eyes alternative dragon, synchro summons (excluding those done via card effect like urgent tuning or formula synchron), cyber dragon (the lvl5), chaos sorcerer, etc. It cannot negate fusion (except contact)/ritual summons like red eyes slash dragon as they are always done via card effects, and it cannot negate high avatar garunix as that also creates a chain link (i.e. you can respond to the summon effect before it attempts to special summon during resolution).
