Does the Buster Blader Fusion have a bug?
I cant use fusion-sub cards like Hex-seals or swamp king to substitute for Buster blader. ive used it for red-eyes slash, which is the same "1 Specific monster + 1 of a certain type" summon condition. is there some weird ruling im missing or is it a bug?

Q&A Rulings
Q: When Fusion Summoning "Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman" with the effect of "Destruction Swordsman Fusion", can I use "King of the Swamp" and a Dragon monster as the materials?
A: When applying the effect of "Destruction Swordsman Fusion", it is necessary to use "Buster Blader" as a material for the Fusion Summon. In the case of "Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman", the listed materials are "Buster Blader" and 1 Dragon monster. In this scenario, you cannot use "King of the Swamp" by applying its effect and 1 Dragon monster to Fusion Summon "Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman".[1][2]

if you use poly to fusion summon then you can use subs.

Are you talking about the tribute effect?
If you're referring to The Light's tribute Fusion effect the Buster Blader Fusion can't be Special Summoned it must be Fusion Summoned, as for the actual Fusion card itself you need a Dragon type monster otherwise you can't Fusion Summon since all of them can only be used for the specific monster substitution not the type of monster
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I'm looking at Destruction Swordsman Fusion now, and it doesn't explicitly say that the materials used HAVE to include a Buster Blader. It just says to Fusion Summon a monster that LISTS "Buster Blader".

Konami being stupid about its rulings again, I see. Neither Destruction Swordsman Fusion nor Red-Eyes Fusion explicitly state that the appropriate materials must be used (and Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordsman doesn't either).

The ruling is the same for red eyes fusion for the exact same reason. The card (roughly) states "that lists -monster name- as a material." This implies that the monster name must be a part of the summon and cannot be substituted. It logically makes sense and I agree with the ruling Konami imposed.

The reason they did this was that at the time when buster blader and dark magician were the thing, atleast in duel links, abusing subs for destruction fusion and timaeus that were practically free paladins in a buster blader deck.
