If you want to know the actual reason, it's because they're all onomatopoeia. Jojo in particular is a popular one that makes big use of the "Ga", "Go", and "Do" sound effects but "Achacha" is one that's used to refer to when something's hot.

But yeah, that's why you have cards like Onomatopaira, Utopic Onomatopoeia, etc. etc.

If you take a look at generation Yellow and Gold and compare the pokedex with the generation of Sword and Shield you will see what a joke the new pokemon look like compared with the old generations.

Okay listen, I hear Gen one-er scrubs like you saying this literally everywhere. So I'm just gonna say this and get on with my life cause it's getting very old at this point.

Those "Joke" designs compared top the old ones as you put it : Ahem, Diglett - it's a Lump with a nose and featureless eyes.

Voltorb : .... it's a ball with eyes. Eelctrode .... BIGGER ball with eyes and a grin.

Magnemite ... magnet with eye. MagneTON .... it's 3 magnemite :P

Keeping in my I love Pokemon probably more than anyone alive today, even I can see how uninspired the older designs were. You all are just salty because they aren't keeping them the way YOU like, as simple looking animals. But all this stupid crap about "Oh they're running out of ideas, oh the mons are just objects now" is nothing new. We are a little over 1000 designs in of these creatures , you wanna sit and tell me YUGIOH monsters aren't getting goofy as ♥♥♥♥ looking ? Come on now xD Let's not be a Hypocrite please

People like me who bought the old generation cassettes in game boy colour made Pokemon poppular not the little children that play Pokemon today.
If it weren't people like me who bought their cassettes and gave them money, their game would end up in total failure and propably not even Pokemon Emerald would exist now.

People liked old Pokemon like Charizard / Dragonite / Mewtwo / Lapras etc. and then with Pokemon Gold they released the legendary dogs which were cool AF.

The creator of Pokemon created the first generations of Pokemon inspired from real life animals / objects and this is why magnemite looks like magnet, voltorb is a ball and Mr. Mime is a mime, persian looks like a cat etc.

Question for you : Have you ever played Miscrits?
This game had way better designs than the ugly designs of the new Pokemon generations (i said had because the game died 3+ years ago).

Another topic now : Ben 10 was a very good anime back in days, because that guy could transform into cool looking aliens like diamondhead / ripjaws / big chill and more.
His character grew up a lot if you ever watched the anime.
But the boys who watched Ben 10 grew up too and they stopped buying toys.
So the company decided to start making money again from the sales, so they made his character inmatture again (kid) and he even got a new transformetion. . .Lego - Minecraft called Bloxx.
Why?
So the kids boy some toys. . .yei!

I am not going to support lack of creativity designs.

Theres still alot of pokemon inspired by real world things and for gods sake its a fantasy game. Doesnt mean a Pokeball as pokemon was a genius idea. And btw why it a big deal if a Gorilla has a drum when Gen 1 had a turtle with friggin metal cannons on its back? The gorilla makes much more sense but eh. There have been bad designs in every gen and i really dont think the average quality of the pokemon has dropped over time. If anything i like alot of designs from gen 3 onward way more than the first 2 gens.

For me "Dark Magician" / "Buster Blader" / "Samurai Destroyer" sounds better than "Gagaga Magician" / "Dododo Buster" / "Gagaga Samurai"."

Heck some cards are even hard to spell fast like "Zubababancho Gagagacoat" and Gagaga Magician sounds like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ - braindead version of Dark Magician or something.

But it's just opinions, if you like these names good for you.
