30 card limit and other questions
So last time I played Yu-gi-oh was when I was like 12 or something, I still have my old deck though, I thought the deck size was 45-60? Did they change it to 20-30? Or is it just specifc for this game? Cuz I googled it and it said 45-60 was the deck size you use, also I have this game on my phone which is pretty fun, but is it actually worth staying around and investing in if there are game stores where I can play paper Yu-gi-oh instead? Thanks

As for if the game is worth it - that really depends on what you're after, what you prefer playing, etc. IE:

- If there is a good sized player base for playing with paper cards and/or you prefer the non-speed format then it's likely better for you to go that way.
- If you're wanting to get into PvP but not willing to spend money, then you're prolly out of luck with this game. Unless of course you pump the gems you have (you should have 2-3K as a new player?) specifically into specific pack(s) to get the current meta cards/decks.
- If you don't care about PvP, play casually and don't care about getting the best deck's asap... then the game can be a load of fun.

Note - not saying that you have to spend money to PvP, but depending on what deck(s) you want to use and your luck with card draws you might or might not be able to get workable PvP decks without buying packs with real money.
Note #2 - the 'free' decks do take some time as they are bought from the card trader, which means you need the gold & such for the cards.
Note #3 - there are decks which need just/mostly cards from mini-boxes... these are obviously easier to get with fewer gems.
Note #4 - Decks which need UR/R cards from main decks... require luck or account restarts to get these specific cards asap, unless you don't mind spending money or taking longer to get the cards neded.

You can PvP without the meta deck's and do decently well - I've easily gotten up to 'Gold' by just using the auto-deck function to create a deck. I have had quite a bit of fun with non-standard decks just trying my luck, going up against others with random decks like I had, etc.

My comments about PvP really only apply if you're trying to get KoG asap or get around/close-to top ranking asap. Many people who call the game P2P & such, state this because they want to be able to instantly be competitive for top ranking... in which case you will generally need a meta-styled deck to do so, which means you either have great luck on draws or spend real money.

But if you don't care about going for KoG, top ranking, or having a great win/loss ratio... then PvP away, as it can be a lot of fun.

Also if you have the time, take a look at the decks of people you play against... you can come across some interesting combo's, cards, etc by watching what other people do and what cards they are using.

Note - I know 'Gold' isn't great at PvP, but I have fun and that is what I play for. I'm not bothered terribly about getting KoG or Platnum or such.

Note 2 - KoG = King of Games = #1? PvP ranking.

I dunno, I used a structure deck and was on bronze I think, and some dude crushed me with I think some meta cards like unicorn horn, if that's what it's called..

Nah, I think you're confusing meta cards with just general cards...

Sylvans, Umi (Mako/Sea Stealth Attack), Amazons and more are meta. Honestly in early ranks as lon as you have decent cards or a decent synergy you can blow through ranks. Platinum it becmes a little more tricky with Sylvans everywhere especially if your deck doesn't counter them or you're not as good at outplaying them. (Mind games/etc.)

Just keep trying and you'll get better, and unlock better cards and you'll have a better chance at winning.

So far I have had quite a good run with a fusion deck based around the Buster Blader combo's along with Red Eye's Slash Dragon. Once I put it together I easily blew through the first two ranks and up to gold. I admit that it does struggle sometime against meta decks like sylvans but can beat them sometimes if I open with a good hand and don't need to wait too long to get some of the most useful combinations.
