Game has too many compensation effects.
Ranked is fun... up until Gold and then it just becomes the same decks over and over again. It really does take the fun out the game. It just gets so boring seeing the same boring counterless combos (even if you negate a card, most have "If this card is destroyed" to compensate people for losing their stuff.

Its kind of mind boggling that this game rewards failure in this way.

You're playing the wrong game.
Or you are just bad you can't win and therefor some here for complaining

Also wow a "meta equals bad" topic I haven't seen this before :cleanseal:

This game is way too forgiving, you basically get rewarded for losing a card. Its rediculous, reminds of parents having to buy their kids stuff when they get a B or C at School.

The game has crept towards a more modern style of play where the graveyard is used as a resource instead of being just a discard pile for cards. That adds to the complexity of strategies which mostly makes the game better, but it does also completely negate most strategies that can't keep up with the long combo strings and backup strategies that the good meta decks can do. Basically the complaint is that pulling at one string can't ruin a whole turn.

Then don't destroy the card. get rid of it in some other way. it's not a reward for "failure" it's a recovery so the player has a chance on their next turn.

No, its compensation for losing a card, reminds me of what League used to do where they would nerf a champion and to prevent the players of that champion from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because they still want to be overpowered and feel they are somehow skillful, they would compensation buff some other aspect.

Its a modern state of play because kids today can't take losing and will quit rather then try again because their parents haven't given them any self-discipline.

I've been playing competitive level yugioh for years, and the game design has nothing to do with kids being unable to take losses. You do know that this game was created, developed, updated, modified, and changed in JAPAN to suit JAPAN's needs, right? Konami doesn't care about kids losing in the Americas or Europe, they realised that the format of the game was too slow so they sped it up. Your opinion is an unpopular one and if you don't like how yugioh is played, then don't play it. no one is forcing you and no one is going to change the game because you're whining about how it has too much "compensation".

In this game you either OTK / Negate everything or you lose the duel because if you inflict damage to your opponent he can use broken skills or grave effects (shiranui) to turn around the game.

If you have a problem with people using grave effects use Ishizu's skill to just wipe out your opponent's graveyard (a huge counter to a lot of the current meta decks) or add in cards like skull meister to negate your opponent's graveyard plays. both are pretty easy to obtain counters to those specific strategies.

I don't have any problems with them, i am just saying how the game works.
You either negate or OTK.
If you inflict damage to the opponent he will use a skill that will draw a good card or a skill that will summon monsters etc.
