The PVP element of Duel Links is toxic as hell for a free to play player, not is it fun or even rewarding, if PVP is all you're interested in, be ready for a rough time with a high grind ahead of you to remain competitive.

erh, don't have that kinda time anymore, i guess i'll get back into hearthstone.
depends in all honesty, a deck to get you to the highest rank can easily be obtained with a small time investment but to keep decks up to date you either need to spend real money or grind quite a bit, always depending what deck you opt for and how likely it is to get hit with the next banlist.

I started in February and made a subterror deck because it's my favorite archetype. Managed to make it to Legend 2 using all free to play things available and it turned out pretty good.

I also main Subterror, can get you to KoG if you play your cards right :steamhappy: no pun intended.

PVP including PVP events are the only times when players nowadays can get a good amount of gems, so you can hate PVP as much as you want, and I still don't understand why people would bother waste time playing this game instead of other better Yu-Gi-Oh games if you don't care about it, but that's not true.

Lunalights are popular and completely free to play and easy to use. The idea is get a good deck that will last you then you can farm whatever you want, but there is a bit of grind like any other mobile-like game. Luckily we have auto duels and a myriad of events that can be rewarding.

You don't have to grind too much as long as you're willing to drop $$$. Though specific cards you can only obtain through tickets. The obvious aside, high PVP is pretty much always going to default into mirror matches or facing the same 3 decks. While there are a lot of decks that can contend at such levels you usually won't see that many of them simply because some of the cheaper alternatives do much more than others can. As well certain decks just perform better based on what the flavor of the month picks are. If you enjoy facing the same 3 decks over and over go for it. If you enjoy facing diverse decks then you're better off sitting at lower ranks.

I also play Link Evolution on Switch, soon to be PS4/Steam, haven't decided yet, i play Duel Links in my spare time, and yeah PVP can be good gems, not worth the effort though, grinding out character levels and world missions if far more lucrative and less stressful, not that's it's hard to get to KoG these days it's just simply not worth the headache, also yes, events are great for gems, however, most of them aren't PVP.

EDIT: Oh and I use YGOPRO for any "serious" TCG stuff, new decks, deck theory etc.

probably not too long since you get dream tickets which will help you build a deck :dustpan:

[From a day 1 player..like BETA mobile day 1]

I've scaled the rewards this game provides freely and I've paid my share, and still I play this game. Despite the reputation of Konami; as a whole, the devs towards this particular IP are indeed generous enough to provide plenty for a player to do "casually" or competitively. Freely you WILL have to grind, but this is nothing new (as I have read you're aware of other games that share this process), but it is Yu-Gi-Oh so the grind is not boring (at least I don't think it is).

In conclusion, play at your pace and you'll be fine, but I warn you-play at the competitive pace and you'll hate this game. Not b/c playing competitively is toxic, but the rate in which the meta changes is toxic (Yugioh is king of some powerful monsters and tech...). Research is key whether you're playing casually or not, so I expect you to; at BEST, watch some YouTube videos to get an idea of what you're getting into.

Play for YOUR benefit, and as always...

GET YOUR GAME ON!

Bird~
