Unusual Decks?
What are some of your unusual decks? Or ones you've seen?

I made one based on Genex cards myself, which have a focus on being able to rapidly summon in 5-7 star cards and beef them up further. So a bit like a Blue Eyes beat down deck, except potentally more flexable, and also potentally worse. Considering it's not a tried and true deck used by everyone and their dog now.

I know I'm never going to get super high in pvp with them, but I'm proud of it just being fully and truly mine. Hope to get all the way to plat with them at some point.

I have also recently seen a deck built around what looked to be cards of futuristic sport ball players.

I

Got completely dunked on. Power to that player.

Currently working on a variation of a monarch deck. Focusing on Thesatlos and Saphria to make the opponent have as small of a hand as possible. Biggest problem is that it tends to brick so I've swapped out Julius and brought back in Mithra.

Ahhh interesting, I don't know much about these monsters. Is it about limiting the other player's options, or carding them out? Or both?

both
Thestalos, when summoned randomly choices a card from the opponents hand to discard, then if it was a monster it burns it for its level x 100.
Safria has three effects that activate during the endphase of when it was summoned or when a light monsters is sent to the GY.

It can give you a graceful charity effect: draw 2 discard 1
Randomly discard 1 card
Add 1 light monster to your hand

All three are good effects, but the 2nd one just further limits their hand size. Since Saffria nad Thestalos are the same level the idea is to summon into thestalos then into safria.

Thesatlos' vassal card if tributed allows it to see your opponent's hand and banish 1 card until the end phase. Limiting their hand size and making it easier to target key cards.

Huh, interesting. I do kind of wonder how my deck would do against that, since it goes the opposite way in frequiently being able to pull cards from the deck and filling out a hand with just the right ones for the situation.

Kinda a 'hit hard and fast" one, but also fairly adaptable for longer duels. Yours sounds considerably more complex though.

I've only managed to get up to gold 3 with mine, and then fell into a bit of a losing streak. How far have you got with yours?

Recently, I experimented with a Gaia the Fierce Knight deck. It uses Skilled Blue Magician, Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight and Charging Gaia the Fierce Knight in it. Included is also Sky Galloping Gaia, the Fierce Knight, intended to be used together with Spiral Spear Strike.

Regrettably, while it's easy to search and summon these monsters, the deck just lacked decisive power to actually win duels. It's more comparable to a beater deck filled with mid-power monsters, with virtually no field control.

I've shelved that deck idea for now. Perhaps in future, I'll try another idea with it. Perhaps combine it with ritual monsters and Gateway to Chaos.

Currently, I'm experimenting with a Black Luster Soldier deck.

I have this really cute deck that involves discarding Rainbow Dragons and using a little quick-play spell known as Berserker Crush to slam the opponent with 4K ATK Winged Kuribohs. It uses a bit of the Crystal Beast engine for draw power, thinning and discarding while the Kuribohs can be spammed on the board with the Flute. It's surprisingly not too hard to set up the combo. The big problem, though, is that you only get one shot per spell so any form of unexpected defense from the opponent completely shuts down the dream. Often times, it's more successful when using the spell defensively as your opponent attacks a seemingly harmless Kuriboh.

Obviously, it's not a good deck by any means as it'll never work against a competitive deck, but it's still fun to bust out in PvE duels from time to time.
I'm making a wolf deck, which started as a Anubis deck with Ghost Knight of Jackal and Anubis traps, then I added Pitch-Black Warwolf and Plague Wolf, and now it just became more of a Pitch-Black Warwolf deck. The Warwolf is useful in PvP. I'm going for Lycanthrope too.

Skilled Blue Magician is one of my favorite cards. I'm drawn to the artwork and I like the ATK/DEF, so it was one I used to use when I first began Duel Links. I actually just started using Charging Gaia the Fierce Knight recently since I never bothered to read it before. I'm thinking of adding one with my other Knights.

I wouldn't call them 'unusual' (it's usually based on the character), but I don't use any meta decks/decklists in building; only the filter functions

Using the Big 3 (Atem, Kaiba, Joey) to illustrate:

-"Main," 30 card general purpose deck with their signature cards (ie. DM/SS/Magical Hats on Atem, BEWD/Judge Man/Thunder Dragon combo for Kaiba, etc.)

-Fusion decks (with respective signatures like Chimera, Twin Headed Thunder Dragon, and Thousand Dragon)

For the Big 3 characters specifically

Atem
-'Main'
-Fusion
-Magician Of Black Chaos (ritual deck)
-Arcana Knight Joker
-Slifer (adapted from Arcana Knight Joker)

Kaiba
-"Main"
-Fusion
-Blue Eyes
-XYZ (since transformed into VW-XYZ...couldn't pass that up...)
-Obelisk (adapted from XYZ)

Joey
-"Main"
-Fusion
-Red Eyes
-Chance/Luck
-...not sure on his fifth yet, bouncing a few options for when I circle back to him. Most likely end up being a Warrior deck with Gilford as the crop. May go the Flame Swordsman route also

That's where a LOT of the fun lies for me. While I doubt they'd advance far past Gold, it is a great feeling to see one of these decks advancing Ranks at all when I bother to PvP since I'm only trying to get Ranked Tickets
Ran into a Yugi playing Black Luster Soldiers and Gaia the Fierce Knight for the first time recently...

Hmm, Gaia seems pretty popular right now. I've run into a couple of them myself, good deck, confusing as heck to figure out what's going on with all of them. Probably a strat.

I enjoy playing what I call the "Insect Beatdown" right now, built around these cards:

- 3x Resonance Insect

- 2x Doom Dozer

- 2x Millenium Scorpion

- 3x Cross-Sword Beetle

- 1x Armored Bee (need more of these)

- 1x Insect Knight (to be replaced by another of the above card)

- 2x Enemy Controller

- 2x Insect Imitation

- 1x Floodgate Trap Hole

- 1x Wall of Disruption

- 1x Draining Shield

- 1x Mirror Wall

This results in a board that pretty much stomps once it gets going. The Resonance Insects being the key to making it work. They "level up" via Insect Imitation into Millenium Scorpions while you try to assist those with Cross-Swords. If those won't beat your opponent into submission (piercing is neat on MS) then the Doom Dozers will.

I special summon Gigantes / Rock Spirit, by banish Giant Rex then it auto-summon. Once both in duel I hope summon one of those golems and win :d

Faced a vagabond that built a deck like this but used super conductor tyrano with monarch awakens.

I don't know if it's unusual, but I never fought anyone with it, and everyone online seems to think it sucks, so, yeah: I'm playing a Lightsworn deck! Lots of fun with it, too, it's a fun deck to play! And with the right cards, you can get very early wins: If you start with Celestia, Lightsworn Angel, a Lightsworn Monster that can be normal-summoned without tribute and a Glorious Illusion, well, on your first turn you summon your Lightsworn Monster, MAYBE it dies on their first turn, but you bring him back with Glorious Illusion and then use Celestia, which can easily wreak havok on their battlefield, and maybe, if you're lucky, get Wulf, Lightsworn Beast on the field, and there you go: 2 creatures on your side with both more than 2000 atk, and Celestia took out 2 cards on the other side so he likely has very little, giving you the victory! That move happened to me often enough! :)

The big flaw, though, is how much you're screwed if you have a very bad starting hand. And, yes, it's possible it happens because there are cards in a Lightsworn deck that are useful BUT you need monsters on your field and/or your graveyard for them to be useful. The above-mentioned Glorious Illusion, Realm of Light, Lightsworn Sanctuary, Lightsworn Blade, pretty much all their Spells/Traps are useless without some monsters first. As for Wulf, you don't ever want that guy in your hand! And there's also Celestia and Garolinth, which are really strong cards but they need tribute. So, yeah, if you end up with those cards in your starting hand, you're in a lot of trouble!
