Understanding Koa’ki Meirus!
This week marks the start of February’s KC Cup! If you’re planning to rise through the ranks of this tournament, you’ll need to understand how the top PvP Decks work. One of those top Decks is the new and improved Koa’ki Meiru Deck! This Deck was greatly enhanced by the release of Diamond Core of Koa’ki Meiru in the Revolution Beginning Main BOX.

Koa’ki Meiru Decks are built around the Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru Spell Card. Two of the hardest-hitting cards in competitive Koa’ki Meiru Decks – Koa’ki Meiru Urnight and Koa’ki Meiru Maximus – both count on the Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru to bring out their full potential.

Koa’ki Meiru Urnight is a Level 4 monster with 2000 ATK, which is already quite impressive. But its effect makes it even more incredible. By revealing an Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru from your hand, you can use its effect to Special Summon any other Level 4 or lower Koa’ki Meiru monster from your Deck. Lots of Koa’ki Meiru monsters have effects that are particularly strong in specific situations, and Urnight has the ability to recruit any one of them when you need it most. Many Koa’ki Meiru Duelists use a single copy of a few different Level 4 or lower Koa’ki Meiru monsters, including Koa’ki Meiru Sandman, Koa’ki Meiru Wall, Koa’ki Meiru Ice, Koa’ki Meiru Powerhand, or Koa’ki Meiru Prototype, so that they always have the monster they need at their disposal with Urnight’s effect. Each of these monsters packs at least 1800 ATK too, making them a strong complement on the field with Urnight.

Koa’ki Meiru Maximus is a Level 8 monster that you can only Special Summon from your hand by banishing an Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru from your hand. Once you do, Maximus will immediately take control of the field. It has a massive 3000 ATK, plus an effect that lets you destroy any card on your opponent’s field each turn. It’s not uncommon for a Koa’ki Meiru Duelist to Summon Urnight, reveal an Iron Core to Special Summon a monster with Urnight’s effect, and then Special Summon Maximus to end a Duel in a single turn!

All of the most powerful Koa’ki Meiru monsters come with a hefty drawback. Each of them will destroy itself during the End Phase, unless you can pay the price to keep it. Urnight, for example, requires you to send an Iron Core from your hand to the Graveyard or to reveal a Beast-Warrior from your hand in order to keep it on your field past your End Phase. Maximus requires you to send an Iron Core or a Koa’ki Meiru from your hand to your Graveyard to keep it on the field in your End Phase.

Fortunately for Koa’ki Meiru Duelists, Diamond Core of Koa’ki Meiru is a Normal Spell Card that solves all of the problems that would otherwise make Koa’ki Meiru Decks tough to play. Its effect lets you add ANY Koa’ki Meiru card from your Deck to your hand. That means you can use it to get the Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru when you need it to go along with the Urnight and/or Maximus in your hand, or you can use it to get Urnight or Maximus when you already have Iron Core in your hand. In addition, you can banish Diamond Core of Koa’ki Meiru from your Graveyard to make your Koa’ki Meiru monsters impossible to destroy for the rest of the turn! That means they’ll become immune to cards like Treacherous Trap Hole, and more importantly, immune to destruction from their own effects in the End Phase. That means you can control 3 Koa’ki Meiru monsters like Urnight, Maximus, and Sandman with no cards in your hand in the End Phase, but still keep those monsters on the field as long as you banished a Diamond Core from your Graveyard earlier in the turn.

Koa’ki Meiru Decks never really took off in the competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME, but the recent addition of Diamond Core of Koa’ki Meiru has made them a powerhouse in Duel Links. The fact that Duelists begin each Duel with 4000 Life Points allows Urnight and Maximus to make short work of opponents, many times without ever entering an End Phase in which the Koa’ki Meiru monsters would otherwise self-destruct.

Be on the lookout for Koa’ki Meiru Decks in February’s KC Cup!

Hello Konami. Thank you for this mini-guide. Please add Noah Kaiba in the future, I would pay so much to be able to play with him. :heartg:

Euh are you blinded?
Koaki constently easily OTK your opponent .
ur + wall/titan/stone + maximus = GG
Diamond can search any koaki card and protect your board for one turn .
And say what ? If you survive 1 turn , you have to deal with 6900 power on board ...
If you don't kill ur , he go spawn another disrupted piece and if you don't kill maximus , you die to because he can strike 1 of your card once per turn ...
Yep , have a fun ...
Only 2 decks can deals with that : buster blader with fusion if no wall/trunade or slowbook if you have silent , can negate diamond and banish ur , lv8 can ride with this 3500 atq against maximus.

every is using this broken deck in Legend - KOG its like spam.. so so boring games.. i dont feel any "just for fun" and zero enjoying. Konami should give us some new meta or some support for DHero, plants or dragons, cyber stein, or exodia

Koaki is worse than sylvan bc it's even more consistent. Only p2w decks have any chance against it. It really shows that the devs only think about money.

Plus there is Reckoned Power to blow up your traps. Maximus is only a rare too, with no ultra rares in the Koa'ki set. Most of the cards are normal and rare. I needed 3 UR for my main deck's monster, from a main box. Not a fair gem ratio compared to other decks. I've been thinking of adding some spell negater but I have little options, Magic Jammer and Spell Shield Type-8. But Iron Core just returns to the hand anyways so I would lose one to two cards for nothing if they have another. I can't think of any other cards that would be effective, at least not worth using because they wouldn't be useful against anything else.

I have see decks running poisonous winds especially for counter maximus.

I just pulled a Cosmic Cyclone, right on time for the KC Cup. Now I can at least banish one Iron Core. Magic Drain might be next on my list to go for. I've been winning about half my matches against Koa'ki, so I think I'm fairing well.

not a single deck can handle this one widhout pure luck.

sylvan had 3 hard counters, 2 of them were hero skills wich needed NOT A SINGLE CARD.

koa ki can't be stopped:

with 3 diamond they have a perfect hand every game.
the 1/100 game they don't got it they can stall with winged kuriboh till they can last gamble.
most of the time its turn 2 trunade and they OTK widhout any counter chance.

don't bother running sphere/normal kuriboh cause they r just unusable against AG.
Eyesight Feb 7, 2019 @ 1:08pm
AG destroy last gamble version of koakskill with ultimate golem (OS) or geartown turbo with reactor/wyrm , don't care about kuriboh's effect , but now koakskill play more balance or pure OTK guts .
