The Konmi ID is your entire save data. Your profile data is saved server side, how it gets to your pc/phone is an association ID that is created when installing the game. So this means if you have an account on your phone, and then install and open the game on your PC, there is absolutely no way for the game to know that it is you signing in on your pc, therefor you will not have access to your account. To be able to play on one account, accross multiple different platforms, you require an ID with Konami itself. This ID links any save data to an ID that you can log into on any platform, the Konami ID is essentially your log in info.

What this also means is if, for whatever reason, your data/game is innaccessible on the platform you were playing on or you re-installed the game etc, then you will not have access to that account (unless of course you already created the Konami ID). For example, something happened with my steam files about a month ago and I had to reinstall steam. This meant that steam had to un install ALL my games, re-install itself, and then I could re-install my games. Since Duel Links was uninstalled, any account data stored with the game was also deleted from my pc. Luckily since everything is stored server sided, and simply associated with "game ID's" I could still access my account. But unfortunately I had not set up my Konami ID, meaning my data was just "somewhere" and I had to contact Konami and give them detailed info about the account before they could verify the account was mine and give me the ID info.

So in short, yes. You will need the Konami ID, because the Konami ID is literally your log in info for your save data. Regardless if you are going to be playing on different platforms or not, everyone should make an account with Konami and get an ID. The problem is... at no point does Konami explain this. At no point do they indicate that an ID with their own damn website is a good idea. At no point do they express that the Konami ID is for anything other than transfering data between platforms. Of course, if you really think about it, to transfer data between platforms requires log in info etc, but the point is that this is not obvious and most people just glancing at the Konami ID button will not realize it is necessary to have access to their account data.

Forgot to say, your progress is lost if you delete the game from your computer.

Absolutely not. You can uninstall the game without loss progress. After reinstall you download any "save" and your Id is the same (on Steam is it). Of course is better that you register your id on konami site for every eventuality but is not necessary. To be clear: i have uninstalled the game some month ago and i have reinstalled it from two weeks, no progress lost (no formatted system).

I reinstalled Yu-Gi-Oh on my new computer after my old computer broke down. Just hoped onto Yu-Gi-Oh and everything was the same without the effort of trying to regain the data from my broken pc.

Better safe than sorry. Just make one. It's easy & free. And then you can play on multiple device.

Don't believe these people. They're just trolling.

You're gonna need a Konami ID. Steam cloud does not support this game

Konami ID is an email + password login. Best way to test this is to downloaf the game on another compatible device and perform a Data Transfer through Konami ID
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
