Two, you had him in a position where he couldn't attack you, or vice versa. That kind of stalemate means you pretty much just needed him to deck out. Or, you have plenty of time to draw cards you need to break the stalemate in your favor.
Three, I'm amazed you didn't have some tool for breaking the stalemate in your favor. There are so many cards that could have gotten him wrecked from that position including ECon (which they won't be able to use due to another one of their cards becoming Semi).
Maybe not ride on nostaliga, cause that ship never sails far.
But people need to learn that dueling the AI is far different than dueling in Ranked. Simple decks like the structure decks or even Ra Kiseitai Farm decks work on the AI because it prioritizes damage and isn't intelligent enough to know that a facedown in either zone can screw it over, nor would it(most of the time) really have anything to get rid of what is considered a threat to it.
Most people have decks that they only use against the AI and decks they only use in PvP. A blue eyes deck that works against level 40 Bakura AI wouldn't be nowhere near as effective against an actual player running Ancient Gears or SSA.
In short, new players need to learn that what works wonders against a bot that prioritizes damage and nothing else won't work against an actual person using cards from newer boxes and actually thinking strategically with cards in their deck to support one another and control the field
