Aside from the above, sheer luck ...whether good or bad.
why surrender ?
#1 _because i feel like game understands that i no more want those cards in my starting hand = force shuffle for next time.
#2 _because even if i wait 2 3 4 5 rounds for nothing without dying...; eeh anyway it's just a waste of time and it never happens to stay alive such long time in pvp _ unless your foe has worst than yours which is impossible once you reach platinium.
#3 _the other thing _ when this happens [to me at least] , it is mainly mostly after 5 6 consecutive duels , like if the game allows me to play 5 games with good hands and if i want to play more i have to endure some awful starting hands .

there are also some mistakes to avoid when you compose your deck :
_no more than 4 spell/traps , if more your spell/traps must count like active soldiers taking part of the battle
_avoid to play more than 20 cards [probability to draw 1 of 3 cards in a statting hand of 4 in a deck of 20 = 28,888888% to have in starting hand ± 1/3 chance , if you play 30 instead of 20 cards your probability reduces to 10% chances]
_if you play more than 20 cards it MUST be because you have cards picking directly from deck = risk of fatigue [specially against hard to kill decks ; ex : paleo decks or any deck making you discard]

(2) D.D. Warrior
(3) Blue Eyes White Dragon
(2) Cards Of Consonance
(1) Silver's Cry
(1) Tribute To The Doomed
(2) Stamping Destruction
(2) Ancient Rules
(1) Cursed Seal Of The Forbidden Spell
(1) Champion's Vigilance
Starting hand:
(2) Cards Of Consonance
(2) Stamping Destruction
(1) Silver's Cry
(Draw 1) D.D. Warrior
(Draw 2) Ancient Rules
This was 3 games in a row.
The next one I will get is:
(2) Blue Eyes White Dragon
(1) Dragon Spirit Of White
(1) Cards Of Consonance
(Draw 1) D.D. Warrior
Very rarely will I start with The White Stone Of Ancients.
Cosmo Brain + Blue Eyes White Dragon is more common than Ancient Rules + Blue Eyes White Dragon.
you're playing it wrong.
or using the neos fusion engine , and open with double garne...neos which basically is a game over.
RNG sure is nice
this, opening up with 2 glossy dojos everytime, no RNG in sight
Or using Magical Mallet and drawing back in the same cards you cycled out every time.
Again, 2 BEWD, 1 Spirit Dragon Of White, 1 Champion's Vigilance Opening hand.
Next two draws, The White Stone Of Ancients.
Second game today:
Opening Hand: 2 BEWD, 1 Champion's Vigilance, 1 The White Stone Of Ancients.
Draw: Cards Of Consonance
Use Cards Of Consonance, discard The White Stone Of Ancients.
Draw: BEWD, Cards Of Consonance.
Third Game:
D.D. Warrior, Ancient Rules, Tribute To The Doomed, Champion's Vigilance.
Draw: Ancient Rules
Draw 2: BEWD
Forth Game:
Champion's Vigilance, Cards Of Consonance, D.D. Warrior, Stamping Destruction
All four games my opponents started with their combos.
