What counts as a 'Card Effect'?
So I was trying Archfiend Giant for the first time and one of his abilities is "If this card is destroyed by a card effect, you can pay 500 LP instead". The first monster I fight (don't remember what monster) had 'if this is flipped face up, send one face up monster to the graveyard'. Now I know Divine Wrath works in cancelling that effect, yet when he selected my Giant I had no option to pay 500 LP to keep him on the field. I was at full health and there was nothing on the board that negated any effects.

Wordings in card effects have priority depending on the situation. Sending is not the same as destroying
Being destroyed by a card effect is basically any form of destruction other than battle, so Treacherous, offerings to the doomed, Maximus, snowman eater etc.... it sounds like the card that flipped up was Karakuri ninja Sazank, whose effect doesn't say to 'destroy' the target, but 'send it to the graveyard' which can be a massive pain in the %^$....

So since Archfiend Giant wasn't destroyed, he was 'sent to the graveyard' his effect doesn't activate. sazank is popular at the moment as it's a good way of getting rid of mosters with proitection from being destroyed i.e. Shi En with Fuma in the graveyard, anything equipped with Power of Guardians etc.

Hope this helps/makes sense
Any card that has an effect is a card effect, so Effect Monsters Spells and Traps, so if the Monster effect, spell or trap specifically says destroy your Archfiend Giant's effect would activate
Thanks everyone, this was very useful information!
