Dark Magician Girl's effect

I had both Dark Magician and Chaos Dark Magician in the grave yard. How come Dark Magician Girl only gains 300 attack and not 600?

Easy explanation, it was the wrong monster.

There are 2 easily mixed up Chaos Magicians; those being Magician of Black Chaos (a ritual monster) and Dark Magician of Chaos (an effect monster). Dark Magician Girl only raises her attack with the ritual variant (and Dark Magician of course). Based on what you said, you likely used the latter monster, that being the effect monster.

i had a similar problem with buster blader, i dont have the original one, got a card that says, as long as its on the field its name counts as buster blader. But thats only when its on the field. I cant use polimerization on it untill i summon it first. and any magic card that says, adds Buster blader to your hand ect.. doesnt work on the current card i have. Nice huh lol
