Next I would recommend Windstorm of Etaqua, obtained when you level up Mai to 25. Its like an Enemy Controller but for all of the enemy monsters.
Early on the trap Metalmorph may be a good option and is still used sometimes in high level PvP, its a Bandit Keith drop and level up reward.
Now onto pack cards, the unfortunate thing is that the best staple trap I would say is Mirror Wall, which is in an old box that has mostly obsolete cards besides Mirror Wall. So even though its a great staple, I wouldn't recommend a new player to pull that box. Instead I would recommend Servant of Kings box which gives Wall of Disruption, a card that's a bit weaker than Mirror Wall but fills the same role. The box also has some strong monsters and decent spell cards like Forbidden Chalice.
Hope this helps! Ask questions if you have.
