Probably the best change.

I found out how it works. It's idiotic though. You need to download the free Elder Scrolls Legends. The moment you link your Bethesda account in that game to Steam, it's linked for all Bethesda games on Steam. "It just works." (And is not worth the trouble.)

Based on Alessa's theory I linked my Steam account via the Bethesda.net website account settings. It worked when I launched the game afterwards automatically.
