Is Sebastian the dumbest protagonist in the world?
Him being confused by literally everything all the time is bad enough, but

The guy doesn't know how doors work.

I encountered a door that was blocked from behind so that I couldn't open it. I go around to the other side and move what's blocking it out of the way. Sebastian proceeds to open the door outwards to where I just was. He could've just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ turned the door handle and opened it from the outside to save me some trouble.

This is set in a universe where no one knows what door handles are or how to use them though, so I guess this is expected.

He got traumatized by handles, in one of the first scenes when you open the door with the lady forcing to eat that poor guy he use the handle then get greeted by the first monster.

Then he tries again at the trainyard with the handle breaking, I guess he has enough of that and decided to never use a handle again.

STEM tried to wice to make him use handles but then readapted to make them just decorations because was a lost cause.

I do agree that for a guy who's seen really messed up stuff during the first game he's really innocent. "What the hell?" and "What are these things?" asked every 20 minutes doesn't make for a convincing badass.

He never stops being confused and never stops letting you know how confused he is.

The character being confused iss supposed to impart a sense of the unknown on the player. Kind of like a mystery book that drops hints and only reveals the twist at the end. But this tactic doesn't work that well against gamers as gamers are good at pattern recogniztion.

Or it is true to life: The NYPD don't hire / will fire any cop with a high IQ. And the policy held up in court as intelligence isn't a protected class.

Politicians don't like nosy detectives.

The guy already saw litteral hell and fought grotesque monsters during the first game, he shouldn't be perpetually confused.

yes, he is a total moron
he says "What the hell?" a hundred times and it makes him look dumb

You'd think at this point he'd be like "Okay this is like Beacon, people are turning into weird monsters but my guns work against them. Do I need to light these on fire too? If it's like Beacon, they're also probably caused by somebody's mind or some crap like that"

It's like all he remembers from Beacon is "I was in a hospital"

I am often slow clapping during game stating, "Sabastien 'Lack of self preservation" Bastion everybody" Everytime he does something stupid, which is nearly every 5-10 minutes...

Personally, I just assume Sebastian is completely drunk out of his ass. That explains his expressions and slurring during cutscenes and the fact you constantly battle grotesque BS monsters as hallucinations.

Also explins why he's perpetually confused, imagine when you're completely wasted and something suddenly happens, you're like "Uh? what?"

Would explain why he would stealth stab (or maybe he is breast groping?) the Crazy knife lady, stops, gets confused gawking at her chest, and suddenly reacts like "Oh sh**" when she starts going nuts. Once fair enougth, but every dam time >.<

The amount of times (in sequences out of my control) he leasurly stumbles into traps slower than a drowned giraffe, to then be suddenly surprised.

I would of seriously got into habbit of shoot first, never get near to ask questions if my town went same way.

Try that next time you play, pretend Sebastian is completely wasted and hallucinates. That'd explain the weird tone shifts like when you just finish stalk-killing things to harvest green goo (???) and then you go back to your room and stop by to play shooting-tetris with the stoned nurse cheering you on.

When Sebastian got out of STEM the first time, people didn't believe him, causing him to lose his job as a detective. He then started to believe that the Beacon incident might just be a byproduct of his imagination, hence forgetting parts of the experience, and hence, the ghost lady in the second game was needed to revive the trauma as a weapon to be used against him by Theodore .

Lmao yes. Theodore was right when he was taunting him, about how Seb always thinks a bullet can solve everything. Then his dumb ass accidentally shoots Torres because he thought it was Theodore and AGAIN thinks he can just shoot to solve all his issues ffs

Then again, the bullet wound was superficial and was not directly the cause of her death.

Yeah maybe, but he's still an idiot for thinking he can just run and gun all his problems. Plus she might have lived if she didn't have to fight with that wound
