Broke the game in "The Climb"

When spraying the 'Portal Gel' to climb to the top of the building, I didn't using the angled gel pipe at the bottom. Instead, I used the 2nd level gel that came straight down upon the movable platform to reach the top. I couldn't get the gel to shoot straight across so I place the gel all over the top trying to get gel on the other side where the catwalk was to 'Portal over' but it would only shoot straight up. I placed a portal at the very top of the beam to see the top of the tower and noticed I got some Portal gel on the very top of the tower where there was a lot of panel control arms, so I placed a portal at the bottom and went through it through the portal at the top of the beam and as I was going through created a portal on the top of the building. I went through the lower portal and came out on the very top of the building, walked through all the panel control arms and then jumped off the edge down to the catwalk on the other side of the chasm. I took the catwalk to the elevator which took me up to a room where I should have been able to place a portal in the floor to get out through a portal I placed through a vent, but the game would not let me place a portal anywhere so I was stuck in that room until I went back to a previous save and used the angled portal gel pipe at the bottom to create the uppermost portals on the building to spray the other side and get to the catwalk that way.

You didn't break it per se, this map has many solutions and was designed to be freeform and a sandbox.

I believe I did because that section of the game was designed to be solved only by using the angled gel pipe and that's why i couldn't shoot the gel across the gap no matter how hard I tried or what angles I placed the portals, so the sequence of using the straight pipe for the gel and jumping across the gap from the top of the building to the catwalk was unrecognized by the game programming when I reached the upper room and left me unable to create a portal there-the game 'thought'I left something out and therefore would not allow me to progress any further because something was still not done yet. So, in essence the game was broke because I did something that not only left out a specific gel pipe to be used for that area but also jumped across the gap from the very top of the building which otherwise would be inaccessible, but maybe it was just because I used the wrong gel pipe.
At any rate, i could not progress any further because I didn't follow the rules and got somewhere I shouldn't have been able to using the method I did which broke the game.

Precisely. Pretty hard to break a level designed as an open world sandbox where you are free to place portal gel everywhere, and then portal or portal-jump everywhere.

yeah I definitely solved that one in the wierdest way possible (I sprayed the white stuff everywhere)

I did the same i did in uh Portal or Portal2 with the same type of room. Spray everything white. Spent to long in both of the rooms. Worth it

I did a weird fling and launched myself outside the map. (This does not clear the chamber. You just have to restart.)
