What is that room?

I found a strange room after solving test 7 of chapter 3 (The Surface). After the emancipation network, in the room where the elevator is to go to the next test, the wall on the right is broken and there is a ventilation duct. Walking around a couple of times, I came to a square room with damp stains, fungus growing on the wall, and a chair in the middle of the room pointed at a closed door. Could this be some kind of reference to another game/movie/book/series?
