Chapter 4 Chamber 14

What is the deal with Chapter 4 Chamber 14? Why does the seemingly *intended* solution require you to cheese the cube onto a platform? Source: https://playerassist.com/how-to-complete-chamber-14-in-portal-revolution/

If there's another solution, I wasn't able to figure it out. But this solution doesn't even make use of the circuit breaker so I don't know what's going on here.

But I literally spent 3 hours this evening trying to get this puzzle and I couldn't find any other way, so either I'm just stupid or the actual intended solution requires you to use cheese.

That chamber gave me a bit of trouble as well, but when I finally figured it out, it felt so obvious I was kicking myself for being stuck on it for an hour.

I can definitely attest to that guide being completely wrong, as the intended solution requires you to place the cube on top of the jump-pad WHILE the power is turned off using the circuit breaker. The next step is to situate one portal onto the surface where the jump-pad's trajectory leads to, and the other on the sloped surface above the water and adjacent to the door button; so that when you turn the power on again, the jump-pad will launch the cube directly into the button without any additional hassle.

The breaker is a key component in completing this puzzle legitimately because it allows you to turn off the jump-pad and preemptively place the cube before situating the portals exactly where they need to be, without the otherwise impossible timing of the cube spawning and travelling through the air being a factor.

So, the thing is I have ruined my own fun.
I was stuck for so long that I was curious if it is a bug or what is going on. Then I saw 3 solutions. Now there is no point of solving this chamber because I'm only able to solve this because I CHEATED. Therefore I never will be able to find a solution for this chamber, I will never figure it out on my own. What is the point then of the whole game now? It doesn't matter if I complete the rest of the chambers because in reality I have already failed with this one. For forever. I should rather uninstall this game. I could just watch a walkthrough on youtube, how would that be different?

Come on. And how would you have felt if you have looked up the solution? Like me. That's much worse, because now the whole game has become pointless to continue.

You are allowed to continue. I believe in you. I got stuck on this puzzle too but enjoyed the rest of the game.

No, you are only allowed to continue if you figure out a solution for this chapter. There is no "skip for now" button. I need to figure out a solution.

I personally think it defeats the purpose of a game like this to look up a guide, since I play these games to have fun solving puzzles, no matter how difficult they may be. If you think that watching someone else solve this one puzzle ruins the entire game for you, that's ultimately your decision.

I think you're being too hard on yourself but I get it. In any case you didn't cheat. You just found an alternate solution. This is common in Portal workshop maps. If you hadn't found that alternative solution you would eventually have found the other one.

Since you are unlikely to find any more solutions than the ones that have already been found, consider playing a comparable workshop map as a substitute. This would show you can overcome a difficult chamber. If you want any recommendations i can give you some.

Then maybe you can allow yourself to continue the game.
