Please help me with Dante!
Hey,

I am not a hardcore DMC fan, but I had been playing with DMC3, DMC4 and DMC5 on PS4 when it was released. Decided to buy DMC5 SE to PC a few weeks ago and I am at SoS atm, most of the time I do an S easily, but I feel uncomfortable with Dante.

I am quite comfortable with Nero (DB and pull really op), and V is a walk-in-the-park.
I think I may do something wrong since people keep mentioning Dante is the most powerful so far even without Faust, but somehow it's much harder to maintain at least S rank for me with Dante...

- I only carry 2 different melee and ranged weapons for each mission so I don't get confused in the middle of the fight (found a guide where they mention this could be enough for an S) even if you take damage.
- I try to use RG, but RG seems to be strange for me. I feel like I tap the block button for a perfect block at the exact same time (or at least it seems to be), but somehow I only block 2 out of 3 times, so I get hit. I used to practice on bosses also, sometimes I easily go up to SSS, other times I got hit quite often. Strange...

How did you learn to master Dante? What's your best setup?

Effective Dante's base is quite simple, but requires some practice and knowledge of game mechanics such as "Jump Cancel" (Enemy Step) and what moves will stun enemies or break through enemy blocks and shields.

You practice SSS combos in the Void (air combos and(or) RG are recommended), then use SSS Sin cancel (Quadruple S, Sin Inferno) to control, stun a group of enemies, deal massive damage and hold SSS rank.

Correct. I collect what I know so far:
- I must use different moves as a combo.
- Need to avoid getting hit or else my style will drop down 2 levels.
- Reaching at least S rank doesn't mean much if I can't keep it up for a longer time, so I need to maintain it as long as I can.
- Some players mentioned that the game may give you penalty for using the same moves even if you reach the same rank in certain fights, so this can be the reason why you had a really good combat, but your score is still dropping.
- I know mission 10 got lower rank score modifier than other missions, on the other hand most of the time people advised to use RG to boost rank on the first fight, so after a pure SSS and no hit, you can get like 5-6k and only have to maintain it.

My current setup is:
Melee: Rebellion & Cerberus
Guns: Ebony & Ivory, Dr. Faust

They mentioned that in a few videos 2 equipment set may be enough for reaching S rank even if you take damage for example on DMD.

Since I am not a pro, I would ask for advice if any of the information mentioned is incorrect or I simply missing something important.

Thank you!

Thank you, I know what jump cancel means, I found a guy, who's creating DMC content since DMC3 and he explained it. I still find his combo really awesome and many ppl mentioned that they tried to perform the same over hours without the exact same result.
Anyway, I will try to do the combos you've mentioned. :)

So i found out that the more combos you have unlocked for the weapons you own the harder stylish becomes (since you need to use different combos if you have them it seems). I tend to just finish a single combo with one weapon (maybe an upward launching blow and subsequent slam), switch weapons, do a combo, switch weapons, do a combo (if its the same weapon from first combo, lets say you did input combo A the first time, do combo B if you have it). Hope you follow the logic there, also dante has swordmaster so mix some of that in if need be. I honestly struggle with Nero and getting the trigger hits right at the end of combos.

Nero is far more manageable for me. Punch Line, Gerbera, Overture and Rawhide are the top DBs for me. I know people mostly say Ragtime is the most op, but I feel more comfortable with the ones I mentioned. For example: Punch Line can keep up your combo meter easily so that's the most common devil breaker for me, I only equip the rest for certain situations (bosses, special fights, etc.). Only reason to use Ragtime for me is only the Fury. But as I mentioned I am not a pro so far, so many other people may disagree with me...

Wanted to put an update.
Just recently got to finally understand the mechanics of Cavaliere and I'm having a blast.
DMD is significantly more manageable now.
In short - The weapon has a "chainsaw" like property on most of it's attacks (Gear wheel). Like the first 2 swings of its Combo A. So instead of mashing, if we let the wheels grind for a moment, it's gives significantly more damage, stagger time and style points.
Also, if we have swordsmaster equipped, then we can swap between the Combo A and B on ground or air, on the fly. Swapping leads to even higher points.

So I ended up with such a long combo that the game doesn't register as having repeating the moves over and over again. And have SSS all the time on it (I struggle with other devil arms to achieve the same).

The combo if someone's interested is -
1st hit - RB + LS back to forward + Y (for distant enemies) or Either 1st hit of Combo A or B (if close)
2nd hit- Combo B if started with A and vice versa, either A or B if coming from distant.
3rd hit - RB + LS back + O (launcher)
4th hit - O (Air combo B, 2 hits, with 2nd hit grinding)
5th, 6th - Y twice (Air Combo A ,make sure to let it grind)
7th - O (single grind hit)
8th - RB + LS back + Y (one of the air attacks with grind)
9th - RB +LS forward + Y (slamming to ground with grind)
repeat.
I think since Dante is stagger resistant during Caveliere attacks so taking damage, doesn't make him lose style rankings and points.

If you mess up the inputs, Dante will send the enemy flying away :)

Thank you for the info :)
Taking a break atm, played over DmC 2013, but planning to come back soon, so I will try it out. :)

Cavaliere is the only one which I never used for real and it seems like I should've done it.

i'm just gonna give you some info since i'm lazy. add trickdown jc to your gameplay. to do this simply let go of lock on after inputting trickdown. then jc once dante moves down. jc stands for jumpcancel. also you can use dante's summoned swords during teleportation whether its up or down. there's a lot more but this is good enough to get you started
