This game has auto pair (cameo system), so you and your friend would have to play on the same difficulty level with different characters, although connecting at the same time is sometimes difficult and it is limited to only a few missions. The best thing to do is to download the Co-op trainer, then you can play almost every mission (PvP as well, but it's a bit chaotic). Generally the game was designed specifically with the idea of ​​completing the story mode on your own, so the Co-op system isn't fully developed.

I don't understand

The game doesn't have the Co-op story mode, you have to download the Co-op mod to play most of the missions with your friend.

is there any dlc I need to buy or is the $10 version on sale right now the full game? I don't care about cosmetics or anything, but if there are like story dlc addons id like those

Yes, the full game is for $10 now, it doesn't have any story DLC.
