is this game similar at all to dark souls

i'm a big dark souls fan, never played DMC, but i'm looking for more hack n slash games and this one has caught my eye

not really? dmc is a linear game with heavy emphasis on fast-paced combat that is more centered on "style", i.e the goal isnt just to defeat the enemies, but to do it while trying to make the most out of the diverse moveset of each character. its very arcade-y in that way, and if you enjoy the general gameplay-loop, it can have a lot of replay value.

Ther story also isnt as dark as... dark souls, but very anime and sometimes pretty cheesy.

not saying you will definitely not enjoy this, but its pretty different from DS

It has a dodge and a lock-on mechanic, that's about all that is similar between DMC and Dark Souls

Keep in mind though, that is Dark Soul's core gameplay, dodging and being more defensive and deliberate with your attacks. DMC is more offensive, being on the attack constantly, and stringing together combos. It's more like a fighting game.

Not really tbh and entering it with a Souls mindset means it's going to kick your ass. Other than being third-person melee combat games they share basically nothing. Even the parry timing is different and will throw you off. DMC is a different beast, treat it as such

all i'm really lookin for is a hack n slash with lock on...fast paced, slow paced, it's all good for me and i can get used to different mechanics

Even lock-on and dodge mechanics are different in DMC.

Dark Souls is an Action RPG-3D Metroidvania.
Outside of the Souls-Like genre, it's more like God of War (2018) or Darksiders.

lol don't worry i'll play it, all i really cared about is if it was a third person action game with lock on...the whole vibe of DMC looks so sick and i've always wondered about it
