mission 4 boss was an absolute torture to get through playing as vergil lol because of the boss being mostly aerial and doging him seemed impossible
As for dodging, every character can jump and sideroll (sort of, in V's case). These do give iframes. Beyond that, the characters all have defensive abilities which are unique to them. In Vergil's case, he actually does have a dedicated dodge, since he uses a powerful variant of Dante's Trickster style. If you haven't bought that (Trick Dodge) yet, there's still Air Trick, Trick Up, Side dash, block etc.
Mastering Vergil's teleports is key to playing him. Without that, you won't be able to get his Concentration up. Vergil gets punished more severly than others for taking hits due to the Concentration loss.
so if i hit someone at the same time as theyre hitting me, that will parry them?
most attacks can be parried sometimes only specific weapons are better at parrying certain attacks(example vergil's rapid slash can parry dante's back to forward cavalier move in mission 20)
every character has a side roll
just lock on and jump to the left or right of the enemy(you could try it out in the void)
nero has tablehop if you jump at the right time
dante has royalguard or you could just use trickster and run away
V can use shadow to dodge to the sides
vergil has both a regular dodge and trick dodge(trick dodges give DT and concentration i think)
In summary this game was never ment to played with keyboard
Yes. You don't have to parry with the first hit of Vergil's basic combo either. For Vergil, moves often used for parrying include Flush (easiest option, just a jump that does a little damage), Helm Breaker, Stinger without Million Stab, Rising Dragon (requires more timing). But you can use anything that has a hitbox.
By the way, some enemy attacks have audio cues, so if you keep an ear out for these, you won't be suprised by off-screen attacks, but admitted, the music makes this harder.
Most of the perfect mechanics and i-frames work in the range of 3-5 frames at the start of the animation. Some options only work in this range (of course there are exceptions, like Shadow dodge with V).
You need to enter commands accurately and on time.
The essence doesn't change from this.
