Devil May Cry 5
To people who like Nero more after DMC5, how come?
I hear some people are liking Nero now when they previously didn't like Nero from DMC4. Can ya'll explain this? I'm just curious because I always like Nero. I just want to know what's different now.

Thanks! Cheers. :steamhappy:

More badass. Doesn't look like an edgy ♥♥♥♥.
Nero had 0 personality on 4 what you on about? No backstory, no real motives and acting like a complete edgelord, on 5 his character is much better presented. The only thing I can agree with this thread is that I also like the music in the previous original DMC games way more.
Although I liked Nero in DMC4, DMC5 is where he shines. His Devil Breakers add more to him than his Devil Bringer did and his combos, while some are the same, feel more fluid and seamless. I liked his personality in 4 (he was more emotional and seemed more human than any of the other characters) and in 5 he was the perfect middle ground for Dante and Vergil. While Dante took 5 games to fully embrace his demon side and with Vergil's hatred for humanity, Nero is the perfect in between. While both are at the extreme ends of the spectrum (one resenting demons and the other resenting humans) I felt like Nero was a great balance. Not black or white, but a grey area that makes the story my second favorite plot of the games (first will always be DMC3 because of the introduction of Lady, Vergil, Dante's new voice actor, and that ending but this game is a close second).

Also that f'ing Rocket Punch has to be the best thing to ever grace these games. Dante's motorcycle is awesome but a rocket you shoot out of your arm and ride on while killing demons? Whoever thought of adding that into the game was a genius.

That rocket was like alot of this game a tribute to dmc 3.

Actually Vergil in 5 was all about embracing and coming to terms with his human side.

Urizen isn't Vergil, he doesn't have he's consciousness and identity at that point. He's is own entity.
V on the other hand was truly Vergil's human side. Accepting his mistakes, his past, his family, his human connection, his vulnerabilities and weaknesses. But also the power of being human.

In a way, Dante was embracing his demon side even more - gaining the SDT in the process too.
Contrarily, Vergil embraced his human side - gaining a great deal of power from this (also SDT).

*Nero on the other hand, I still wonder...
Reuben was referring to the logo as "angel wings" and Vergil was clearly confused about that "form of power". Even Dante was saying "what the hell?".
I know the universe doesn't suppose to have any angels, and it's highly unlikely. But retcons happen everywhere including DMC (Like WTH Vergil and Dante no longer identical twins!?).
So maybe his mother had some angelic blood. Also no demon posses that "Devil Bringer" abilities, nor Sparda. Far fetched, but who knows.
Meh I prefer Old Nero just like I prefer old Dante.
Nero without his grab felt boring for the first run and the news toys he have are not great.
Back in the days Dante didn't have that much options like his 4 ability he gets in DMC4 and 5 (royal guard, gunslinger, etc).

Back in the days you really had to know how to play Dante now he is just too strong.

For Nero I would have prefered more combos using his grab, like 2-3 hit sword then punch launcher and more, maybe even being able to charge his fist or something......... so I prefer DMC4 over DMC5. I see nothing wrong with Nero even if his personnality is not like Dante.

DON'T CALL HIM DEADWEIGHT !
I always kinda liked the fact that he was basically sneaking the Bionic Commando into DMC.

I finally picked up 5 with the recent sale, but I expect he'll still be a no fuss "He's fine, what's the problem?"... Though I do expect I will miss Suplex Ghost.

Well, as soon as I make up my mind if I love or hate not being able to cycle through his arms basically brute forcing me to not want to hoard them.

you know, you say this is your fault, but I just sit here wondering.. how would Dante have been in this game, if Rebellion, Balrog, Cavalier, or King Cerberus, were also breakable?

You do realize Nero has a sword that is unbreakable? (and a demon arm on subsequent playthroughs)

yes, I'm aware. but, it would be funny if he had to buy Red Queens constantly too.

Dante: I need.. 4 Balrogs, 3 Rebellions and 2 King Cerberi.
Nero: I need 7 Red Queens.

I always wondered how Nero's sword can even trade blows with Rebellion and Yamato and how its so durable and effective against demons. I mean I'd expect it to break and need serious repair against some of the greater devils. Heck I'm surprised it was able to withstand Urizen so well.
And Yamato? You'd think Yamato would cut through Red Queen like hot Katana through a block of butter, but nope. (Although what even more boggled my mind is how Lady was able to BLOCK Yamato swung by Vergil. Not only be quick enough, but also not having her rocket launcher sliced in half.
Did the novella or any other media mention anything about Red Queen and Blue Rose properties?
Because I'm pretty sure they are definitely not Devil Arms.

Now don't get me wrong, I love when video games have story-gameplay integration and consistent logic, but DMC isn't the best series to nitpick that sort of thing. It's kinda supposed to be over-the-top and not very logical.

I know, the only logical explanation I can possibly think of, to how Nero's sword is effective against demons, is perhaps the fact that the original design was made by Agnus. And the according to Lady the Order were after Devil Arms and Demons. So perhaps through research they were able to produce replicas / lab-made Devil Arms. And Red Queen is basically one of them.
Since it's similar to the order of the sword weapons, just greatly enhanced - by Nero.

But you are right. Logic is kinda hard to find here. I'd still love to see some background in a cutscene , dialogue or flashback - on how those weapons were made.

Also I kinda wish we saw another cutscene with Nero assembling Red Queen from a huge guitar like case, like in DMC4 start.
The Red Queen works by being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing.

I love my stupid motorcycle sword.

... You know, I've never seen anybody give the Kalina Ann any **** about "But not made out of literal magic!"

It is also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing, though. 3/4 of Nero's philosophy all in one object. Sharp object, shooting things, grappling hook.

Red Queen may be made of demon blood or something, this is a sword crafted by the Order of the Sword, so I guess this excuse isn't out of the realm of possibility.

from the wiki:
Its precise origin is never stated, though it could be assumed to be an experimental weapon: the note that only Nero can wield it implies some degree of testing occurred in order to establish this.
