Nero sucks.

Playing as this character is just depressing after experiencing the powertrips which are playing as Vergil and Dante. I even enjoy V more and he doesn't even attack.

I enjoyed Nero much more in DMC4 because of the Yamato. In this game, your stupid Devil Breakers get destroyed after you use them once. What's the point? Fight starts, thirty seconds in all of your Devil Breakers are gone and you're just stuck using the same old Sword Combo over and over. Nero's pistol also really sucks, holding down X to charge it is just awkward and it does no damage compared to Dante's weapons.

Nero just lacks in every way. Dante does more damage with his melee AND ranged attacks. Dante has more weapons to choose from. Dante and V can transform. V has superior movement options thanks to Griffon. The only things Nero has going for are his theme song during fights and his banter during cutscenes.

It's painfully boring and makes me want to uninstall. I'm on Mission 16 and I have a feeling based on the way the story is going that they will make me fight the final boss as Nero. Any tips on making this character bearable to play in the final stretch? I don't want to drop the game when I've come this far.

Without spoiling too much, Nero becomes a lot more fun after you finish the first playthrough.

Breakers are most useful in NG+ where you plan your setup beforehand. They break only when using Break Age, Break Away and getting hit while using them. If you are loosing all of your breakers in 30 seconds then you are doing something wrong.

Nero's my favourite to play. Exceed is a brilliant mechanic, Blue Rose is fun to charge up and blow demons up with. The breakers give him some much needed variety. If its your first run, then its likely on Devil Hunter, so breakers are all over the levels. You're meant to be reckless and loose with them, spending them freely. Don't hoard them but use them. This changes on higher difficulties, making them more of a strategic tool to be used at the right time.

At least now you know that Nero got back everything he had in DMC4 and then some. If you had fun with him in the previous game then I don't see why it shouldn't be even more fun to play as him now.

Nero is the same as DMC 4. In DMC 5, his DT form is similar to his Yamato version, except you can only unlock DT at end game (which kind of sucks honestly because some players won’t replay the game after beating it once in DH. So really, they never really experienced the DT version of him for very long, let alone figure out the Knuckles mechanic). Once you unlocked all of his movesets, that is when Nero shines. Especially when you have upgraded his Exceed Gauge to max. You’ve played the fourth, so you should know that it’s his core mechanic. Nero can outdamage Dante in melee alone pretty easily if you hit the exceeds. Even better with Max Act. As for the Devil Breakers, on your first playthrough, you will definitely break most of them. But that should give you a hint at how valuable they are for Nero. Don’t get hit, don’t blindly use them. You have to have a plan for them (but you don’t really have to if you know what you are doing).

In other words, try to give the game another shot by trying the Son of Sparda difficulty. Nero has a play style that is completely different from Dante. Dante is more of a playful character who is about style. Whereas Nero is a brutal and cocky fighter who attacks like a truck. Pretty much like daddy Vergil, except Vergil is more focused and composed.

(on controller) I use RT or (R2) to charge Nero's gun, so it's easier to hold while you melee the enemy.

I agree that Nero could have used a bigger movelist (or more weapons). I'd love another weapon with the EXCeed mechanic; or more moves for each Devil Breaker.

I dunno man, Nero's gun is basically a rocket launcher. Bind that thing to RT and just hold it all the time while you attack enemies with your sword and then unleash it whenever it's full charge, boom explosions.

If your breakers are constantly breaking then you're just kind of face tanking enemies and you aint sposed do that. You sposed to like... not let them hit you, and shoot things into their butts while they wobble around helpless and confused. This is the way of the Nero.

learn to max act, buster properly, use maximum bet and showdown, use devil bringer properly, use charge shot, he even has a triple jump now he's OP af and always was even before adding the insanity of devil breakers and even more broken blue rose
