With that in mind, it's probably in our best interests to treat Sol Cresta and Babylon's Fall as petitions for future ports.
Thanks for the recs. I'm adding MGRR, The Wonderful 101: Remastered, Vanquish, and Assault Spy to my wishlist. Can you tell me if these games demand a high level of skill from players? Also, should I get DMC5 if I am looking for a high-skill ceiling action game?
If you want a high-skill ceiling action game, Ghostrunner exists.
Dunno if I'd list DMC5 as the best style action game ever, but it's up there.
Of all the games listed there, the Ninja Gaiden games are without a doubt the most difficult. Ninja Gaiden's difficulty makes DMC's look like a walk in the park, with the exception of perhaps DMC3, where enemies actually have aggression. Only downside here is that playing the best versions, Black for NG1 and original 2 for NG2, is kind of pain in the ass. If you have a modern Xbox you can play them there, if not they run great on the Xemu and Xenia emulators respectively.
NG Master Collection is fine, Sigma 1 (a remaster/rebalanced version of Black) is fine, not as good as Black, Sigma 2 is radically different and if you go this route, best install a mod that attempts to restore it as best it can to being close to the original 2.
Anyone who recommends a Platinum game to you is doing you a disservice; they're fine, perfectly serviceable action games, but if you play Bayonetta then you've played the rest: Nier Automata reuses Bayo's moves a lot, and Metal Gear Rising does the same. Platinum's titles feel very by-the-numbers and lacking depth compared to DMC and NG.
You could also play the PS2 Era God of War games through various means. There was also a movie tie-in Ghost Rider game on the PS2 that tried to be a DMC3 clone.
Of all of them though, I would say Ninja Gaiden 2 and Devil May Cry 4SE have the highest skill ceilings in the genre: Dante is insanely hard to be an amazing player with, for many of us it took years, but it's very rewarding. 5 has a slightly lower skill ceiling due to quality of life features, but it's still rewarding if you seek that feeling of mastery.
People who recommend Final Fantasy 16 haven't played DMC beyond a surface-level. I got FF16 believing the marketing of "It's final fantasy with DMC combat!" but it plays nothing like DMC beyond having a lock-on and a very poor version of the stinger move.
OR
Should I save and play them on emulators for a better experience?
Thanks, gonna check them. I reckon these 3 offer more challenge than Platinum games.
Then, I'm going to check 4SE as well. But I guess I'll have to start from DMC3SE for its difficulty and the story build-up.
Just realised Devil May Cry HD Collection exists on Steam. Should I get it to have a feel for DMC3SE's difficulty? I read that the chronological order of the series is 3, 1, 2, 4, 5
So I'd start the series with 3SE.
Thanks! Sadly, the sequel seems not to have made it from the reviews.
Wishlisted already!
If you're going to play through the whole DMC series, I'd recommend doing release order, not chronological order. 1 is also a pretty challenging game and the series builds up on its mechanics as you go. But yes DMC3:SE in the HD Collection is a good time.
