I'll give some tips on how to beat him without much style, but at least you will not have to use continues.
Build up your Royal Guard and have your SDT ready for later phases. Easiest part to perfect block is during him sending out one Spiral Blade after another. I would say a fully charged RG on SoS would be about 1/4 of his HP.
I don't remember if you can, but if you can, limit your weapons. If you are not comfortable with any of them, leave them out, but you should at least have Devil Sword Dante. I strongly suggest removing Cavaliere since most of the attacks has a long wind-up time.
Like first stated, get extremely comfortable with his first phase. On second and Doppelganger phase, I suggest you hold the Style button with Devil Sword Dante. Hold button so you see the four swords being summoned around you. Release the swords about 3 seconds before Vergil finishes an attack where you can stun him. The swords you summoned will do the stun part for you, all you have to do is then choose Trickster and teleport to him.
This tactic also works against his Doppelganger, just send them out against it and dodge all attacks. Eventually it will go down.
Around his 3rd phase, he will start blocking your attacks with Yamato. Don't spend all your RG against this block, as it absorbs all the damage. Instead, go regular Devil Trigger and perform a Stinger, this will break the guard.
if you have finished BP (or at least reached the floor 101) you can practice there without having to skip cutscenes all the time
if you aren't a japanese player with 10 fingers in each hand that can cancel all your moves and want cheaper solutions, there are:
dr faust charge attack, will IK vergil
"more honorable" solution: don't push yourself too much and bring just 2 devil arms with you, i recommend devil sword dante (just for the summoned swords) and balrog, but you can try others that you are most familiarized with, i just don't recommend cavaliere, most of its attacks are really slow and after a X amount of damage vergil will knockback and teleport so it isn't that useful
You can use Trickster and RG or parry his attacks.
In Nero's case, it's necessary to effectively use the moment when Vergil falls to his knee.
You don't have to use the grab right away.
Deal as much damage as possible using various Breakers and launching Vergil into the air.
Also, use Payline to reflect Vergil's Summoned Swords.
...and Dodge)
It also deals with his summoned sword stuff.
